The band, under the direction of Virg.l1'arman, was one of the most active groups in school. It played at many events-parades, Open House, football and basketball games, pep meetings, and assemblies-as well as presenting two concerts. The sixty members were governed by a board which determined the policies of the organization. The executives were Hill Bunt, Lawrence Drehmer, Norma jean Lutz, Bill Starks, Georgia Belle Thompson, Louis NYeide, and Mary Bea Flint. The band's annual pay concert given in December was an outstanding success. A variety of selec- tions were presented including everything from symphony to swing. In March, Dr. Frank Simon conducted the band in a performance that drew the highest praise from the many who heard it. The cornet trio, pep band, and brass quartet were small band groups which made special apa pearances from time to time. Members of the cornet trio were David Tilson, Phil Young, and Donald Walker, pep band, Lawrence Drehmer, Glen Brock, Jess McKee. David Tilson, Donald Vvalker, Phil Young, Norma Lutz, Fritz llenthorn Bill Dunn, llill liunt, Alice McConnon, and George liampbellg and brass quartet. David Tilson, Phil Young, Bill Hunt, and Bill Dunn. Two visiting music critics applauded the band heartily. Mr.' Clarence li. Sawhill, director from the l'niversity of Illinois, who was in Dodge City for the band clinic in February said, The Dodge City llighSchoolhas excellent quality. Dr. Simon commented, You have a fine symphonic band developing here -awards of musical distinction the band highly deserved.
