went to Sears Groxe foi what was termed Field Day Various contests were held and the winners were given points for their class The class that received the highest number of points was declared the winner and receix ed the field day banner Although the Class of 29 did not receive the bannei they w ere proud of their various winners One Punch Maurice Thompson won the boxing match although he was pretty well fagged In detei mining who was winner of the color fight representatives from the Junioi and Senior class weie chosen to climb the greased pole The one who reached the top first was the winner Bill Cuthbert of our class won The Senior year was of course the biggest and most successful year of all Maurice Thompson was the president The Senior play A Lucky Break was put over with more success than any other student play The largest crowd was present at The Luckv Break than had ever before assembled at a school play The Sou Wester was also a success we at tribute this success to our sponsor Miss Neuns Miss Nevins IS admired and respected by all When we were readv to give up she encouraged us until we accomplished our task Fourteen of the football squad were seniors Herbert McCollom was captain Fixe of the basketball squad were also seniors and Bus States was their captain The Girls Quartette was composed entirely of seniors three of the Mixed Quartette were sen iors and one of the Bovs Quartette was a senior Ava Currier took first place in the alto solo in the Dodge City Invitation Fine Arts Contest Cleo Gilbert took second in the Oratorical Contest held in Dodge City A big social event of the year was the delightful banquet and reception given us by underclassmen the Juniors Fifteen seniors were elected to the National Honoraiy Society This IS the first year that this society has been organized in this city It displaces the old system of giving D pins to only those who NVGIS outstanding in scholarship. In the new society there are four points by which a student is judged, scholarship, character, leadership and service. One shadow flitted across this last year. One of our classmates passed into the Great Unknown. The Senior Class as well as the school mourned the death of Irma Swindell. There are one hundred enrolled in the graduating class. This is the largest graduating class in the history of the school. It is also the first class to be graduated from the new building. There is sadness in knowing that our high school days are over and even though many of us are going on to college, those days will never be like the high school days. We can not help having a strange anticipation at the thought of graduating, just as any one feels at trying something new. We have reached the last of our high school history, the last step in the completion of high school learning and we hope success will be ours in the new and untried life to come. This closes the history of the graduat- ing Class of '29. It is not extraordinary but it is dear to every heart in the class, and it is with sadness and yet joy that we leave D. C. H. S. -B. M. R.
