Jolw B 's Bodg A readers' theatre adaptation of Stephen Vin- cent Benet's' narrative poem, John Brownis Body contributed an experimental approach to the Dixie College Players' theatre season. Readers, theatre has its origin in the Greek chorus, in medieval conventional stage settings, costuming and the traditional fourth wall which usually separates audience and actors. folm Browrfs Body is a poem about the Ameri- can Civil War in which the abolitionist John Brown's raid on Harperis Ferry and the slavery question serve as an epic theme to portray dramatically many facets of life in the troubled 1860's. The families, background, battle expe- riences, and romances of the characters are treated poignantly. Particularly moving is Lin- colnls anguished soliquy as he debates the War and his role as the leader of a torn nation. A speaking chorus and an a cappella singing cho- rus recreated the battle songs, the lo and the choral speaking parts. Cast Directed by C.
