271 Ruversude Druve Pans France July 22 1961 Dear Hazel and Famnly Since my leusure tvme us not taken up today l wall answer your letter which l recenved last week We have lust returned from a two months vacatlon Just let me tell you what a thrnllmg tame we had and all the nlce people we met We took a plane to New York where we stayed for three days Whlle there I had the prnvulege of seemg lovely Joan Hayes who IS now a model for a dress designer m New York Cnty Joan told me that Edna Kllllon IS now a beautsclan In the Windy Cnty Chicago Durung our stay In New York we attended the New York Grant St Louls Cardmal baseball game Much to my surprnse I found Bobby Dual as catcher of the Grant team and opposing hum was tall lanky W H Vinson Cardinal pitcher After our stay In New York we boarded a plane for Memphis where Mom and Dad met us wuth open arms For two weeks we were travelung over West Tennessee On Tuesday we spent the day at dear old Dlxne We were welcomed by Prlnclpal Howard Huckman who IS also Duxles basketball coach lnczdentally Dlxle has won twelve trophies smce we left there In 52 Howard sand that John Forbus has become an outstanding leader ln clvlc affairs In Oblon County At present he ns presndent of the Old and Third Natnonal Bank In Umon Cnty Whale at home we attended the wedding ceremony of Jimmy Goodloe and has lovely Tennessee bride Jlmmy IS now owner of the Goodloe Dames Inc of Racme Wlsconsln Snnce my husband IS a native of Barcelona Spam he knew very llttle of the scenery of the Umted States We drove to beautiful Lake where we saw the rlch playboy Charles Murphys new lodge being constructed by the Waymon Archer Construction Company of Nashvnlle Tennessee l picked up a copy of the Commercial Appeal recently and was simply overwhelmed when l noticed that John Dyer IS now edltor of the large daily paper There was an article In the paper that told of General Robert G Craddocks brave explolts ganmng hum a promotion He ns now commander ln chzef of all Allred Armnes rn Korea On the same page there was an artlcle concernmg the Umted Natnons negotlatuons of the Korean peace treaty l was surely surprised to read that our own Edna Caldwell IS now head negotsator We untended to take a tram back to Los Angeles but we could not get proper connections so we purchased a new car from our old frnend Avery D Councll who IS now one of the most prominent leaders In the Memphis automobnle clrcle From Memphis we took the Central Route through Kansas and saw Lester Lynchs 28 000 acre wheat ranch near Topeka He told us that Arlun Ray IS now the owner of the Ray Huaracha Shoe Co of Alcapulco Mexico Whale drlvung through Colorado we had a dreadful wreck with a huge Dlesel englned truck owned by the Davls Trucking Co of Butte Montana To our great I I I I . - I ' , .
