LT L. J. LAKE a Dixie's engineeriing department provides technical assistance to ships the 7th fleet and maintain and operate DiXie's internal engineering system. The auxiliary division, consisting of enginemen and machinist mates, test various internal parts such as injectors and fuel pumps and maintain the ship's refrigeration and heating syetem for food storage and comfort. The electricians and internal communications of the electrical division operate and maintain the main switch board and provide electrical power for the Dixie and tended ships as Well as provide maltenance for ships' intercom systems and gyros. The repair divisions' shipfitters and damage controlmen provide all types of sheetmetal Work and Welding as well as carpentrey Work on boats and assist in the area of damage control. The boiler division operates the ships' 4. boilers, provide steam for the generators and main engines and for tended ships and operate a test laboratory for tests on oil for viscosity, sediment and other foreign chemicals. The machinery division operates the main engines, generators and control the evaporators which convert salt Water to fresh Water at the rate of 96,000 gallons daily.
