The Personnel Office processes men who are to be discharged, re-enlisted or advanced in rate, as Well as personnel accounting, issuance of ID cards and all service record entries. The Captains Office handles the ships' official and classified mail, maintain ofhcer service records and prepare the plan of the day. The Postal Clerks handle an average of 5,900 pounds of mail each month, in addition to selling stamps and money orders. The Master at Arms force provides assistance to the Officer of the Deck, and supervises all oiiicial gatherings. The Chaplins Office arranges for holy services for all faiths, liaison with charitable organizations, Works With the Red Cross during family hardships, and maintains the crews library. PEDERSON The Primary mission of Dixieis-' Repair Department is repair of destroyers, however, they are capable of effecting many repairs to other types of ship's, especially during deployments overseas. To accomplish their mission, the de- partment is sub-divided into 5 divisions, each specializing in specific areas of repair. Dixie's Repair Department is capable of almost any type of repair needed by a destroyer except dry docking and jobs requiring heavy rigging for accomplishment. The Repair Office processes approximately 1,ooo work requests per month for accomplishment by the various shops. These work requests are varied in the number and size of the items to be repaired. Items as small as a needle and as large as a gun mount are frequently encountered and accomplished through the professionalism and inguinuity of the various rates and ratings Within the department.
