' -------f ix at iw Z 2 5 f Z E Here is a land and a people contrasting with all we have previously seen. Gone is the frenzy and nervous bustle of Yokosuka and Hong Kong. Instead, we find a land of quiet though definite progress. The three weeks spent in Subic Bay was a long and restful one. Abundant recreational facilities made our stay in the Philippines more enjoyable. Good food and l refreshment, dancing, swimming and various sports rounded out the full schedule of a typical .sailor's week. He made his choice of diversion from a multitude of possibilities-Olongapo cockflghts, Driftwood Beach, movies, the EM Club, l native shops and restaurants. One of the highlights of our t trip to Subic 'Bay was the 'H DIXlE's daily recreation, parties wil Ml to the island of La Grande. An 3 , w island about twenty minutes by boat, with just about everything lf from spacious beaches to a small golf course, this island is used by the Navy chiefly for recrea- tion. E A small group visited Baguio, 11 fa i 6 V Q! l Ql , M I 9,1 a beautiful mountain resort I Z if ? equal to America's finest for a 4 f j f Z I few days of welcome relaxation. .'
