CAPTAIN OLIVER D. COMPTON Chief of Staff Captain Compton Was born in California in 1918. He graduated from the University of California in 1940, and Was commissioned in 1941. He Was first assigned to BENHAM CDD 3975, then to Fire I Control School, and then WADSWORTH CDD 5165. Thereafter, he received various staff assignments and then entered on two years of post-graduate study, earning a Master of Science degree. After I this, he served at several assignments, including PASEDENA CCL 655, and VALLEY FORGE CCVA 455, and in 1945 assumed command of CUNNINGHAM CDD 7525. Following this he Was on the staff of COMCRUDESPAC His next assignment Was COMDESDIV 212. In August 1961 he reported to Commander Destroyer Flotilla ONE as Aide and Chief of Staff to COMDESFLOT ONE. ---li

1 1 REAR ADIVIIRAL CLYDE J. VANARSDALL, JR. Commander Destroyer Flotilla One Rear Admiral Van Arsdall Was born in Indianola, .Mississippi in 1913. He entered the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1930 Where he excelled in athletics. He graduated and received his com- mission as an Ensign in 1934. He served on many ships including the INDIANAPOLIS, VINCENNES and the PORNETT. In 1942 he became Executive Officer of the V-12 Naval Reserve Ofhcers Training Program at the University of Oklahoma As Captain of the USS ANTHONY CDD 5155 he received the Navy Unit Commendation the Navy Cross and the Silver Star for heroism in action against the Japanese In August 1952 he Joined the staff of the the Naval War College Then he served as U S Naval Attache in Paris France In 1960 he reported to the office of Chief of Naval Operations to serve as head of Joint and International Plans branch, Strategic Plans Division He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1962 prior to becoming ComDesFlot ONE ! , . n , . . - . . - Q I 0
