:ne Barnes I sat down and asked each one what they had been doing all these years I dudn t have to ask Gary I could see he was a very Important man Sunce he s been a I I star general he sand he d been so busy he had to have a rest Brlly sand he was a successful busnness man In New York and was also here for a rest Maxune and Irene were vacatnonnng and stopped here for the nrght I told them all about the reunuon and they sand they would start for Dunuba the next day After having a lovely dlnner wnth them I returned to my room and turn ed In for the night The next mornlng bright and early the plane, wnth everyone aboard took off for Yellowstone After arrlvung there and only stayung long enough to puck up three more passengers we were off to Las Vegas The three passengers were Donald Bricker and Mlke Bustamante who were forest rangers and Allen Burnrtzku who IS a very success ful photographer It wasnt long before we landed at the Las Vegas anrport I left the aurport took a taxu and told the drnver to take me to the Underground Gambllng Gardens I told hum my old school pal Uranlum Jam Keeffe owned the place and I wanted to stop un and say hello I found I was lust In trme for the bug show of the evennng the Aqua Show Was I surprrsed to fund that two of my school pals were swlmmung queens un the show JoAnn George and Beverly Devuns It was a beau tlful show and I enloyed myself rmmensely Jum spotted me and came over to my table to talk to me He told me that June Hay craft Carole Frlesen and Mona Krle were all In Las Vegas and were goung to be mar rned June was marrying a bug Texan that had acres and acres of oul wells Mona and Carole were both going to marry theur hugh school sweethearts All ofa sudden a bug guy came up to Jum and told hum he had better leave Jam had tame to tell me that was Merle Ferguson has bodyguard As I was lust gettlng ready to leave I spotted two men slttlng at a near by table that I thought I should know Sure enough, I was John Garza and Clarence Harms They told me they were both pros pectors and sard they had staked only IO claims for uranlum It was nice talklng to them but I had to leave and go back to the plane As we left the aurport I decided to take a nap before we came to our next stop whlch was to be San Francusco When I woke up we were an the San Francnsco airport and I notnced we only were gonng to stop here long enough to let passengers on It was sure nnce to see more famnluar faces It was told that Jack Holden was a Coast Guard com mander and that Rodney Hoppe nd Ted Kobayashu had gust arrnved from Alaska Rodney us a shupmate In Alaska and Ted ns an emnnent sportcaster and had lust cover ed the sk: tournament In Fairbanks The Medrna brothers John and Tony have an antuque shop here an Frnsco and I hear at IS really something James Zerounuan and Ray Mulford have a trucking lrne and Hen ruette Lussm and Belra Merjel are their secretarles They also tell me Ronald Pupkun IS chief of police In Frlsca and Bernadette LaCasse IS a polrtewaman Sheldon Moore IS a get test pilot Tom Nlckell as a pro tes or of math at the Unlversuty of Callfornra and has just wan the Nobel prlze I had to laugh when I heard this one Wayne Newcomb and Brlly Oliver are steeplelacks and both are tryung to see who can clrmb the highest and stloy up the longest lOh brotherll Next to board the plane was Lyle Putnam who told me hed been a stunt man for MGM and had just made some spectacular lumps from the Golden Gate brrdge for a movie thnller Norma Rnvera and Kathryn Russell boarded next tellmg me they owned one of San Francnsco s newest theaters The last passenger was Marne Kar San Francrscos leading tashron desrgner wearing one of her very smart creatxons Soon we were on our way to our next stop Sacramento A qulck stop here to load passengers and I watched exclt edly for our frlends What was that odor? Salmon' Clark McGoon and Vernon Clune were boardrng wuth thenr Ilmnt of salmon caught the day before In northern Callfornla Here come Dvxle Mathis and Ellen Maloon of the Mathis Cr Maloon Railroad Company chlef englneer and dispatcher respectuvely Next I saw Bernard LaCasse and Pete Larson stall wearing track clothes for they had just fmlshed a mara than race The two Impressive looklng gentlemen next on were U S Senator Don Maxwell and Callfornla Governor Ben Mlyamoto Last I talked wvth Erma Muze a successful Importer Our flnght over the beautnful San Joaquin Valley was a pleasant one far we had much vrsutung to do At the Fresno carport we were greeted by Mayor Rlchard Sparks of Fresno the famous mldget auto racer Wanda Schultz and one of the San Joaquun Valleys most prosperous farmers Rnchard Rlce Meetmg our chartered busses at Dmuba were Shrrley Henderson of the Dunuba eBouty Shop and her as slstant Larry Wllllams Rrchard Sheppard head football coach at DUHS and Bobbe Norolan teacher of yournal :sm at the same school So began a wonderful reunion wnth Elaine Mathis Threl as our otfncnal hostess - I . . . . . . , ' I - I . . leans and that she was takung tume off to fly back to the reunuon At the hotel I thanked Robert for the lovely dunner and went on up to my room to get a good nught s rest The next mornung I got up early and de cuded to shop for a new dress before Ieavung New Orleans I walked down the street and found a dress shop called Dullon s Clothes for Women ' so I decuded to go un As I walked un I saw a very pretty dress that was beung modeled by lof all peoplel Elaune Balentunel JoAnn Day the sales gurl told me that Beverly Dullon owned the shop and was doung very well I was so happy to talk to them and to see they were doung so well Beverly saud she was closung her store for a few days so she and JoAnn and Elaune could attend the reunuon I left the shop and headed back to the aurport gust un tume to board the plane I made myself comfortable agaun and looked around for some more famuluar faces and I spotted two un the rear of the plane After we had taken off I got up and walked back to say hello to Dave Depew and Lloyd Wat I dudn t have to ask them what they had been doung because ut was un all the papers and everyone knew Dave holds the Olym puc shot put record and Lloyd us a famous jockey brungung un SOO wunners un one year After talkung to them a whule I returned to my seat pucked up a magazune and be gan to read Pretty soon I heard a vouce ask me uf I cared for somethung to drunk and who should the vouce belong to but my old pal Joanne Munson She saud she had replaced Bullue at New Orleans and would be our hostess untul we arruved un Sacramento She also saud the pulot had been replaced by the only gurl TWA pulot un the world none other than Lee Walden I laughed and told Joanne I wasn t sure I wanted to stay on the plane We remunusced and before long we found ourselves ready to land un St Louus Mo We were told by Joanne to hear Pete Ber mudez and hus band who were playung at one of the nught clubs un St Louus She saud Toye Wells played a mughty mean trumpet and that Don Lawrence can really make a clarunet sung Sh also saud that Darlene Young the sungung sensatuon from South Susquehanna who was sungung wuth hus band had the only paur of vocal chords that could reach Pete Joe s new sound We dud have tume to take un a Iuttle of hus musuc and ut was terrufuc' Whule wautung at the aurport I bought a copy of the St Louus Journal and was I sur prused to fund that Dolf Wagner was the edutor un chuef and that Martha Beck Inez Cude and Bobbue Jean Cooksey were report ers and dud a mughty fune job As I read on I found an artucle about skun duvers Well for goodness sakes ut seems Gary Artley owns a shup and has two skun duvers workung for hum Arlayne Tullus and Alberta Baerg They have been duvung off the coast of Mexuco lookung for sunken treasure There was also an artucle about Carolyn Colluns Just yesterday ut seems she deluvered her thousandth baby' She us really doung a fune uob as a doctor It also mentuoned that Wanda Ware was her head nurse There was stull a Iuttle tume left before the plane was to leave agaun so I decuded to take a short walk I had walked only ung and read the sugn Cochrans Spud Shop I decuded to go un and see uf by any chance the place belonged to Gary Cochran and sure enough ut dud We talk ed a whule and he told me Wulmer Warken tun was hus head mechanuc and Muke Cude was hus test druver He saud the three of them were plannung to leave that evenung for Calufornua un one of hus new model cars I wushed hum luck and told hum I would see hum at the reunuon Back on the plane agaun and on our way to Butte Montana where we would spend the nught We arruved un Butte about 7 p m I took a taxu and asked the druver to take me to the bug Dude Ranch that Id heard so much about I arruved to fund that Wayne Anderson owned and operated the huge ranch I was also told by the desk clerk that Wullard Culver was the foreman After I had cleaned up I went down to the lobby and unto the dunung room I saw someone motuonung to me so I walked over tothe table Of all peple there was Irene Brewton Bully Cullers Gary Blake and Max I . .
