In their bid for state-wide honors, the Galcats, af- ter subduing Orangeburg and Wade Hampton, dropped a close 41-39 decision to Camden in the Lower State Class A finals. Thus, Coach John Fowier's sextette rounded out its regular schedule and the championship series by registering 22 victories against only one loss. Teamwork, speed, and spirit were the driving forc- es behind a great team, co-captained by All-State Guard Edith Ann Gove and All-State Forward Anna Carmichael. The home team scored 1,209 points for a 52 point average per game, while holding their opponents to 690. Top scorers were Anna Carmichael with 604 points, Mildred Townsend, 368, and Bonny Kerr, 183. Defensive chores were capably handled by Edith Gove, Mary Skipper, Sara Boughman, Marilyn Mac- Queen, and Betty Jean Hayes. Co-Captains Anna Carmichael and Edith Gove exchange encouraging words minutes before the successful district tournament game against Ben Townsend closes in as Kerr nets cr lay up. neftgville.
