Karla White, Laura Brooks, and Greg Seale were chosen to participate in gifted and talented appreciation seminars last summer. They submitted applications to be considered bya se- lection board. All three learned from the experience and were glad they went. Greg went to Fox, Arkansas, and studied agri- culture and conservation. Karla studied natural resources at Harding University. Her group took field trips to nuclear po wer plants and made a news video about what they had learned. Laura went to Fort Smith where she worked on research papers. She took a subject of interest and stated and tried to prove her point of view. Greg said, I learned things on conservation and didn't realize we wasted so many natural resources. Karla commented, I met a lot of new poeple and learned what it will be like at college. laura stated, It was too long, but I met a lot of people and had fun. It was an honor for Betsy Stokes, Susan Turner, lon Do wdy, and Brad Garner to go to Girls' and Boys' State, but not quite what they had expected. They were up very early and stayed up late at night, which made them all a little grumpy. lon and Brad said they spent a lot of time on the ground doing push ups, usually early in the morning. Still, everyone learned more about our state govern- ment and our election process. a Sw t l? s t i 1 S Laura Brooks, Greg Seale, and Karla White went to gifted and talented programs this summer. lon Dowdy, Susan Turner, Betsy Stokes and Brad Garner attended Boys' and Girls' State.
