JAMES J. CONNOLLY Principal lt is peculiarly human to peer into the record of the past, recreate the days which now are lost to us and rebuild the beautiful castles which have long since crumbled. This blessed gift of isolating the proud moment that flattered us, of turning away from the memories which seared, of basking in the light which made us giant size-is heaven sent, indeed. lt is a lodestone of treasured recollections whose value increases munificently with each stumbling year. Your Gnome is a prophecy, graduates. It was thoughtfully conceived, artfully and cleverly produced- cherish it and make of it a reality. DR. JAMES J. CONNOLLY Principal TO THE CLASS OF JUNE 1955: There is no greater incentive to carry on toward the goal we set for ourselves than success. Each success adds to our supply of confidence, a source of supply to be tapped in facing the next goal. Successful completion of your high school career should therefore mean more to you than the mere acquisition of a diploma. It should make you realize that you have met a series of problems and obstacles and you have not let them conquer you. You have conquered. Your proven ability to conquer must make you confident of your continued ability to conquer obstacles yet to come. Only you honestly know if you have done your very best. If your graduation truly is the result of your honest efforts, you can be proud. With the confidence in yourself derived from your honest effort you can look to the future armed with the knowledge that you can succeed again. Good luck-God bless you. DR. FRANCIS J. Looking back over the past years, we realize that a close association with our advisers and counselors has made us familiar with the needs and accomplishments to achieve not only our goal at Dickinson but also future goals. Grateful we are to them for all they have done for us. They have been there when we needed their advice to carry ony they have understood when understanding counted most, they have waited untiringly when patience meant so much, they have given us a hopeful word when encouragement was important. We appreciate fully all their efforts in pre- paring us for tomorrow, and we shall try hard to be deserving of the faith and trust they have placed in us. 10 Q. MR. ROBERT J. Magee: That he is deserving of our gratitude for his efforts heretofore performed in behalf of the graduating class of June '55. That his untiring patience and great determi- nation will serve as an inspiration to us in future years. That it is the fond hope of all concerned to possess someday his rare understanding of youth. In conclusion, we sincerely thank our one and only Mr. Magee for agreeing to share with us the dearest years of our lives. We sign and seal this document with due pro- cess of law, and with the understanding that it will be taken out and inspected when wishing to recall fond memories of happy days. 1199 xxx D D 1 Nm i 42 . -I ll We MR. With this we come to the close of our Album, the last record having been flipped, we realize sadly, that they will be, for many years, gathering dust. Until, brought out once more, they will ring true and the Class of June '55 will live again. This Will is dutifully signed, sealed and presented to our friends and successors, by us, the GRADUATES OF JUNE '55 asa,-s J Q' sl 'T -1 'st vw! S. I 4 R . t History of the Class of June 1955 FRESHMAN Start a four year career in that big building? What a challenge! Such a thought came to us-we, the members of the Class of 1951. Dazed and bewildered we rambled through the busy corridors. lt was our first day in Dickinson High School. We entered as babes in the woods, looking for paths that would lead us to our right place in the world. There were so many new responsibilities, new sights, new diversions. Our first audi, crazy jazz sessions, musical concerts by talented people, the magnificence of the Follies were some of the things that kept us in awe. We newcomers stepped in stride by welcoming Mr. Magee as our class adviser and presenting the Juke Box Jamboree. We joined activities and, for the first time, cheered the Dickinson-St. Peter's Thanksgiving game. Encouraged by our successful accomplishments we moved on into the second year. SOPHOMORE Slightly sophisticated and more complacent, we strolled to our classes now aware of our newly-acquired confidence. With this assurance we captured greater success with our Huddle Hop, dedicated to the idea that all the football games we play, we win We also coupled our practical sense to the culinary art and produced delicious pretty- as-a-picture cakes and cookies for effective cake sales. We had really found a place in the school now and joined Cheerleaders, Usher Staff, Twirlers, Choir and other activities. Again we cheered our team in the traditional Dickin- son-St. Peter's Thanksgiving game. Having spent this year in a slightly less dazed but more profitable manner we pro- ceeded full steam ahead into our third year. .L 1 f .L 'i -21. -ax W7 JUNIOR We were approaching our goal but before we attained it, we knew the sensation of being able to wear a Junior pin not for the pin alone but for what it stood-three years of diligent studying and learning the important rules of living with others. Our Circus, planned with precision and packed with fun, turned out to be a popular hit. Unfortunately our Skating Party failed to come through with fiying colors. Our spirits arose, however, at the perfect smoothness of the Bunny Hop. We became members of the Honor Society, Student Participation, and athletic teams of various kinds that were headed for winning trophies to present in assembly to Dr. Connolly. But all too soon this term had gone with the swiftness with which it had come. SENIOR As Seniors we recalled that we had come far since our Freshman year. Moving now with the certainty and experience of an adult, we planned and brought about the success of another Juke Box Jamboree. Our Farewell Senior Dance was a favorite. Returns and congratulations poured in from our Club 55 and the All American Dance. Nom- inations for office and invitations to enter the Honor Society were joyfully accepted. We diligently worked and anxiously awaited our marks, and with the passing of time we completed the plans for our Exit Day program and reminisced o fpast events and won- dered about what the future would bring to us. Our Senior Boatride, attended by all, gave us many memories to store away for the future. The Prom with its glamor and glitter was the highspot of our four years of social life. The thrill of donning cap and gown made us realize that we had accepted that 1951 challenge and with the level headedness, sureness and steadiness of a mature adult developed through associations with teachers and classmates, we were prepared to find our way around successfully and make our mark in the world. v- , l K wil? .
