I93ll THE GNOME A MESSAGE FROM TI-IE PRINCIPAL GRADUATES: The most vital thing for you now is to place your activities for after june 30. Are you getting a job? Are you waiting for some college or other school to open in September? Or will you just drift? Above everything do not drift. Have some purpose-if you do not have any now, make up one. Resolve to be something or somebody, a definite something, or somebody. Don't just say I am going to be so and so. First think hard about yourself to determine for what you are fitted. Ask the advice of your parents, your teachers, anyone who you think may help you. Then decide. But don't take too long to decide. When you have decided-stick to your purpose-let nothing stop you- you are the captain of your fate. Read, read-books, magazines, newspapers, everything that may help you to learn about your purpose. Meet people engaged in the field in which you are interested. Attend meetings of groups where discussions of your chosen vocation take place. Aggressively seek to practice those things that will make you better able to grasp your opportunity when it comes along. Set a worthy goal, and keep everlastingly at it until that goal is reached. THE GNOME JUNE FAREWELL With saddened heart, with hopes anew We say farewell to comrade true. And as we part we dream a dream In which our future plans we scheme, Of fortunes great, of visions bright, To guide us like a celestial light. In this, our hour, we reminisce Our past four years. Our thoughts are bliss. Together here we shared our joy. As we were then-But girl and boy. Young men and women we are now, So dream no more-let's make a vow. And to our vows we dedicate Our high ideals to emulate. But this o'er all,-fraternity Goes on through life,-eternity. Our vow's complete-No need to weep. Farewell dear friend-May God thee keep. HAROLD PERKEL Twelve
