Crane pauses for breath as rest of the clarinet section rhythm, and a dull retrain becomes a vibrant echo con,i,.,Ue5p,oYi,,g. as Robert H. Leuhrs, Detroit Lakes High School's new band director, conducts practice sessions in room 64. Whether it is marching in the heat of the Water Carnival parade or the cold of the last football game, the band is always adding zest and color to community and school activities. Our concert band has been busy since early this year practicing patiently for first the annual winter concert and then the spring concert. Pep band adds spice at games and pep tests, while the Combo, under the direction of Rudy Moe, plays for school dances. This year the band schedule has been changed to allow for regular 6th hour classes. Woodwind sect- ionals are given on Tuesdays and brass sectionals are on Thursdays. This change gives the students additional practice time and does away with after supper sessions. Band offers more to its participants than an extra- credit or a means of enjoyment. It develops a music- al appreciation which the band student will long remember.
