Mike -Sleepy Parker breaks away for a lay up against Thief River Falls. Laker Cagers Under the direction of new Coach Carl Oman, the Detroit Lakes l-ligh School Basketball Team compiled a winning season with an ll-lO mark. The cagers'got off to a fast start and in winning 4 of their first five showed fiashes of great potential. As the season wore on, it became evident that although they had a fine first five, they had no floor leader or bench strength. This accounted for the fact that ofthe TO losses, 7 of them came by l and 2 point margins and kept them from developing into a really fine team. After being seeded third in district 23 play, the Lakers took a thrilling 56-54 overtime victory from Glyndon in the opening round. The tournament road came to a dead end against Moor- head in the semifinals as the Lakers came out on the short end of a 58-48 count, but some glory was salvaged when the bas- keteers came back to defeat Perham 57-55 in another overtime hair raiser. Bob Moe emerged as scoring champ with 333 points which tied the school record and the Lakers outscored their opponents T252 to TQTO, Prospects are bright for next year as all the veterans except Moe, Jack Lee, and Dean Weimer return.
