CAD-287 as Main Propulsion' aindp-3mag,efCDntro,l Assistant and USS Lawrence CDDG-'41, trg- asrltngvagataor and Damage Control Assistant. ,yAfter'ffgra.duatfing from Naval destroyer School, he wasWeapons Offi- cer in USS Davidson 'IDE-10455. He then attended Naval Postgraduate,School in Monterey, CA, earn- ing a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research. Captain Norton served on the staff of Command- er Carrier Group Three as the Surface ASW Officer followed by a tour with the Office of the joint Chiefs as a strategic analyst. During a subsequent sea tour, he served as Executive Officer, USS Santa Barbara QAE-289. He was then assigned to the Depu- Combat Logistics Force New Construction Coordi- nator. He is a graduate of the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. . Captain Norton placed the USS Platte CAO-1865 in commission in january 1983. Command Awards during his tour included the Battle Efficiency E , the Majorie Sterrett Battleship Excellence Award, and ,the Meritorious Unit Citation. He assumed command of the USS DETROIT CAOE-49 on 15 May 1986. - Captain Norton's personal awards include the Le- gion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the joint Services Commendation Medal, the Navy Com- mendation Medal ltwo awardsl, and numerous ser- vice and campaign ribbons. Captain Norton is married to the former Eliza- beth Williams of Alcoa, Tennessee. They have three children: Elizabeth, james and Vannessa. . ' -.. T' , lin., 'W
