I 1 L.- 1 WM - Ill 2 CAPTAIN IEROME F. WATSON Captain Watson wasiborn in Brooklyn, New York where he attended local schools through freshmen year at Fordham University. He entered the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1955. Designated a Naval Aviator in 1956, his first assignment was Attack Squadron 46 flying F9F-8B and A4 type aircraft. He made Sixth Fleet deployments aboard USS INTREPID QCVA-11j and USS ROOSEVELT QCVA-42j. In 1961, he was transferred to Attack Squadron 44 as a Light let Attack Instructor and also as A4 Maintenance Officer. In 1964, Captain Watson was assigned to the joint Staff Of ClNCSTRlKEfUSClN CMEAFSA at MacDiIl AFB, Tampa, Florida, Wl1Gl'6 he served as an Emergency Action Officer. He graduated from the Naval Wi-If College, School of Command and Staff in 1966 and was transferred to Attack Squadron 174. He was the first A7A CORSAIR II replacement pilot and the 67th pilot to fly that aircraft. He was a cadre member of Attack Squadron 86, the first East Coast squadron, and deployed aboard USS AMERICA QCVA-661 to Southeast Asia in 1968. 1 He graduated from the Naval War College, School of Naval Warfare In 1970. In addition he earned a Master of Science in International Affairs Degree from George Washington University. He was assigned to Attack Squadron 174 as Maintenance Officer. From 1971 - 73, hetwas Executive Officer then Commanding Officer of Attack Squadron 37. Hp made both Sixth and Seventh Fleet depl0ymGm5 aboard USS SARATOGA QCV-60j. l -In 1973, he was Readiness Officer on the Staff of Commander Tactical Wings, Atlantic. From 1974 thru 1976 he was Executive Officer of USS SARATOGA. During those two years he made an additional two Sixth Fleet deployments. Transferred to the Staff of Commander Naval Air Force, U5- Atlantic Fleet, he served as Force Training Officer. From 9 March 1979 Ihfll 20 August 1980, he was the Commanding Officer of USS DETROIT fAOE-4l- Following command of the USS DETROIT, Captain Watson assumed command of Service Squadrom Two. I Captain Watson's individual Decorations include Four DistinguISl1CCl Flying Crosses, Bronze Star, Four Air Medals, joint Service Commendation and Navy Commendation Medals. .He is married to the former Patricia DeWageneire of Chicago and Slfautf F rida and they have five children.
