BOYLE Captain Boyle is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended La Salle College prior to entering Flight Training in February 1956 as a Naval Aviation Cadet QNAVCADJ. He was commissioned an Ensign and designated a Naval Aviator in August 1957. Captain Boyle's first aviation tour was VA-15 and VA-165 at NAS jacksonville, Florida flying the AD-6 Skyraider where he made a Caribbean and two Mediterranean cruises on board USS F.D. ROOSEVELT QCVA-42j. In july 1961, he reported for instructor duty with VA-44 and VA-45 at NAS Cecil Field, Florida where he transitioned to jets and instructed in the AD, A4 and the TF-91. Captain Boyle served as aide and Flag Lt to COMTRALANT from july 1964 to 1966. ln November 1966 he reported to VA-46 at NAS Cecil Field and .deployed to WESTPAC in USS FORRESTAL QCVA-591 flying A4's. After FORRESTAL'S disasterous fire, he reported to VA-15 in USS INTREPID QCVA-111 until completion of their WESTPAC deployment. Following two years at the Naval Postgraduate School from june 1968 to 1970, during which he earned a B.A. in International Relations, he reported to Commander Carrier Division Six as Strike Warfare Officer. While attached he made two deployments to the Mediterranean aboard USS SARATOGA QCVA-601 participating in the Jordanian crisis and the CV concept evaluation. Upon completion of A-7 Transition Trainings at VA-174, Captain Boyle reported to VA-46 as Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer making two Mediterranean deployments in USS IOHN E. KENNEDY QCVA-67j. In September 1975, he reported as Operations Officer at USS F.D. ROOSEVELT QCVA-42j making the final Mediterranean cruise for F.D.R. prior to her decommissioning. From September 1977 until February 1980, Captain Boyle was assigned to the Office of the DCNO QAIR WARFAREJ as co-ordinator for aviation RDT 84 E and Program co-ordinator for the FKA-18 HORNET. Captain Boyle has flown over 5000 hours and has 750 Carrier landings. His awards include three individual air medals and the Navy Commendation Medal. Captain Boyle, his wife, the former Frances Godfrey of Philadelphia, and their six children, Ray, lack, Ann, lim, Mike, and Tim presently live in McLean, Virginia.
