as New m meer r buperare QBptimum The ship's emblem is unique to DETROIT and will represent her as long as she remains part of the fleet. The seven major elements depict the functions and history of the ship and the Navy. The black hull and white sails of the first DETROIT are set against a background of light blue sky and deep blue sea. A shperical bomb symbolizes ordnance, a wheat-filled cornucopia symbolizes provisions, and a fuel valve symbolizes petroleum products. These portray the mission of the Fast Combat Support Ship, to support the Navy's attack carrier task forces at sea. The symbols are set within electron paths to identify the nuclear age. The five stars represent the five United States Navy Ships to bear the name of the city, Detroit, Michigan.
