A CAPPELLA . . . with only the murmur of the breeze through the pines, the gurgle of water, and the staccato crack of fire for accompaniment, the little group sang to the hills and shy. As one voice the melody came from their throats-they sang because they loved to singf' Brilliant growth and popularity has been the reward of this thoroughly worth while group. Starting humbly, it is now grown to a class project through the earnest effort of Miss Loraine Nelson, the director. its seventy members have sung at the Colorado Education Association conven- tion, for the Denver Music Society, and at several other public gatherings, earning much sincere praise. Widening their scope, they performed over KLZ, singing not only four but six and eight part harmony, difficult for even trained adult choruses. Again South welcomes the new and claims the title of Leader, l20l J-A

GIRLS' GLEE , . . . in the throes of artistic inspiration the women folk dropped their chores and organized a strictly feminine trio. Later, augmented, it became a quartetteg then a sextette, and finally, when a seventh member joined these vocal ranks, at a loss for 759 a name they called it a 'chorus . It remained for their children's children five generations later to develop a full-voiced chorus of seventy. Directed by Miss Loraine Nelson and accompanied by Janice Morton, they accomplished success after success. First in the All City Chorus, during Music Week, then in Don Alonsois Treasure, and finally in the All School Show they displayed admirable training and enthusiasm. Of course, they gave several assemblies and outside programs as periodical outlets for their tuneful art. These, too, were delightful and well received-a statement which goes without saying. l22l -.-..--i
