1st Division Always ready to answer the call. First Division works hard and effectively to fulfill the Denver ' s Mission. A skilled work force composed of Boatswain ' s Mates and Deck Seamen, there is no task too big for First Division. Some of the division ' s many responsibilities include anchoring and mooring the ship, underway replenishment of fuel, personnel, and cargo and operation of the ship ' s large Boat and Airplane Crane. Boatswain ' s Mates maintain a constant 24-hour underway bridge watch team. This team consists of Deck Seamen who steer the ship and stand lookout, among other duties. By way of the Boat and Airplane Crane, First Division is also responsible for the insertion and recovery of the Captain ' s Boat, and two other similar small crafts. Always First in action.
