AIR BOSS LT Ahern Air Department on Denver is a group of 20 sailors whose main job is to Keep em Flying. The Division is comprised of three Aviation rates, ail of which have distinct job descriptions. Aviation Boatswains Mate Handler (ABH)-yellow.blue, red shirts are overall responsible for t lightdeck evolutions; to include controlling the landing, launching, securing, movement of helicopters and harrier aircraft the Navy Marine team uses. They control the direction of personnel on and off aircraft and the supervision of all maintenance of flight deck, aircraft and fueling evolutions. They are the fire fighters of the flightdeck with crash salvage. The motto is an earned one: That We Safely Smartly, Day or Night, Rain or Shine support any all operations we can. Aviation Boatswains Mate fuels ( ABF)-purple shirts or grapes as we call them are responsible for Jet Petroleum (JP-5), motor gasoline (mogas), and aviation gas (avgas). They control and pump to vital areas including Main Machinery spaces (MMR), FWD AFT diesels, all Navy Marine Nato aircraft, special amphibious boats, armored tanks, and assorted other trucks and forklifts working to the motto of To Fuel Anything, At Anytime. Aviation Support Equipmenr(AS)-green shirts have the job of maintenance on over 300 pieces of handling equipment such as forklifts. tow tractors, weapon skids and various other equipment used for movement and securing of aircraft and ammunition.
