To develop our capacity to the highest and to secure liberty and freedom are two points of the American Dream which have been acquired by pupils of this school for years. The students are given the opportunity to join organizations in which they are interested and are able to do well ln this way they can show their fellow students teachers and community what they are capable of doing and make a better name for themselves Safety in the classrooms halls and out of doors is stressed by clubs of the school lust as the various departments of the city and nation do their part in keeping the population of the country free from hazards and accidents. Stage skits, pertaining to courtesy, are presented to the student body at various times. This is just another means of improving the qualities of the pupils and making them better American citizens Being victorious in our struggle for indepen- dence has given us Americans this liberty and free dom which we are so grateful for and proud of When we pledge allegiance to our flag of red and white stripes and white stars on a blue blackground we can be filled with gratitude and ioy to be able to l e in this great and free country of ours America ,ff ff' , , - - iv ' ' . 0 .ii 'll 5 LF' ' .-f A ,i b g l 4-fl S 7-Owefi O6 icVLOLUl8a9Z CUNTENTS . . ln+roduchon Classes Organlzahons Dramahcs A+l1le+ics Fea'rures Au+ographs Adminis+ra'rion agfm ez! ,, z ADMINISTIQATIUN , Tv.: ' fx.. Besides fulfilling their daily assignments, many of the students are given extra jobs to be done for the faculty, Under the guidance of well informed teachers, pupils of the commercial department are not only trained but are being prepared for what may be their future occupation. Ability to mem- orize, concentrate, and be neat are all necessities which are expected of students of this department in order for them to succeed. Each day employers of business officials and large concerns call for men and women with ability to do typing and shorthand. Those taking this course in high school have not wasted their time, for they are prepared to take on the responsibility of a job and proceed on their journey of business. Being divided into two divisions, the library is headed by two teachers. Miss Flora Fischer is the faculty adviser for the counseling nook which was established to give guidance to students in future vocations. An annual counseling week is held by this division and cadets assist Miss Fischer in distributing books, pam- phlets, and folders containing information on suggested vocations. As the main librarian, Miss Helen Bennett also has cadets under her advisership with Miss Hazel Hansen as her assistant. Besides containing books of fiction, non- fiction, and reference, the library also supplies the stu- dents with magazines for both study and pleasure. . . . Depczfzfmenf Philana Capston B. A. Sponsoring an annual vodvil has always been the club's major project from a financial viewpoint, because this organizaa tion helps to support the less substantial clubs in the school, Before the Christmas holidays the boys entertained the Cirls' Club at a Mexican Smorgosbord' dance which was wholly a social function. lt consisted of a floor show, lunch, and dancing to the music of the service orchestra, During the year interesting programs were enjoyed by the boys in special assemblies arranged for their entertainment. Among these was a talk by Morrie Arnovitch, baseball player with the giants. Bowling at the Twentieth Century Alley was among the sports which the boys and faculty participated in. This is the pledge which appears on all the membership cards of this organization. This year it is headed by Rolland Wick, who has attempted to make this one of the organizations of which Denfeld can be proud, Besides the regular meetings, the boys also have weekly devotional meetings which help to carry out the spiritual devel- opment of this club. Yearly recognition services are held in the uptown Y. M, C. A, for all the Hi-Y clubs in the city. The social functions of this organization include the Bean- feeds, which are given in the school cafeteria for all the members desiring to attend: the father-and-son banquets, which help the boys and their fathers to become acquainted with their fellow members: and the special Easter services, which are held for the spiritual benefit of the boys.
