Prophecy Concermng The Class Of 1952 We fell asleep 1n Enghsh class durln the study of R1p Van Wlnkle and true to form, we awoke twenty years later On loo mv around Dena1r we found the members of the sen1or class of 1952 occup1ed thus Just as we leave the school we are nearly run down by a speed1ng truck We see that the truck 15 one of the fleet of the Dena1r Garbage D1sposal Works owned by Mr Robert Ryan HIS fa1thful Wlfe who dr1ves the truck and does all the advert1s1ng 15 the former Mary Frances Sm1th Then we cross town to f1nd Mr Lee Roy Clow now en aged as the permanent lecturer D na1r Women s SCTVICE Club H s tOp1C usually IS hy Not Buy a Hudson? From a group of goss1ps 1n front of the club we hear that Alton Ha11e IS 1n Wash1ngton p1ck1ng apples He 1S mak1ng the rounds as a profess1onal fru1t tramp and probably w1ll be around when the peaches and grapes are 1n season aga1n The t1dy lawns and gardens around Dena1r are the work of Dave Warnock We also hear that he 1S marr1ed to Betty Thornton and that he coaches the D G S pltchers on Sat urda s On aslselephone post we see a poster advert1s1ng Glenn Ratchff and h1s Hardtop Stuntsters who are com1ng to the 99 stad1um In order to cover more of the old stamp1ng grounds we call a tax1 We are astounded to fxnd that Arlo Wenstrand 1S now one of the lead1ng dr1vers for the Dena1r G I Tax1 Co H1s beaut1ful w1fe the former Pat Turley 15 flower g1rl at the local mortuary From our dr1ver we learn that Charlotte Schendel 1S pa1nt1ng pottery and weav1ng Navajo rugs, Her husband John Webb has g1ven up 1nternat1onal gambl1ng to squeeze berr1es for the pa1nts and dyes In th1s same reg1on 1n charge of conservat1on for the state we f1nd Beverly May em1nent tree sur eon Back 1n ena1r one of the fzrst thxngs that we see 1S the new modern Ch1ppewa Boot Fac tory owned by Thomas Alford who suppl1es the f1nest Hereford h1de 1n the state In a remote corner on the th1rd floor we see Cllfford Hamlow sh1n1ng buckles Across the street, 1n the old bank bu1ld1n we not1ce that Everett Allen has set up h1s dent1st off1ce He uses only the f1nest too s from the Turlock Hardware We have by now come to the outsk1rts of town and whom should we see but Steve W1ght herd1ng goats from the back of h1S fa1thful steed W1ldf1re To pass the t1me wh1le we get back 1nto town the dr1ver turns on the rad1o The f1ne co1ce of Gayle Troedson comes to us over the Swedxsh Hour Then we hear an advert1se ment for the oostakaka wh1ch Gayle makes h1mself and peddles from door to door Back 1n town, we leave our tax1 s1nce the fare IS gettrng rather h1 h We f1nd ourselves at the local barber shop We go 1ns1de for the cool1ng atmosphere t ere and d1scover Glenn I.,oft1n who has a monopoly on the shoe sh1n1ng there Mrs Arle Loftm has the man1cur1ng etc Waltz1ng around town we come to Dena1r Hosp1ta1 and not1ce engraved 1nbronze the name of Clarence Ryan world renowed braln surgeon who spec1al1zes 1n overworked h1gh school students Mrs Mar1e R an m1lks the fam1ly herd of eo cows da11y Statloned 1n front of the hosp1ta 1n Dena1r s year round Santa Claus Ray A111 I-hs neat box of enc1ls IS at h1s s1de and the cheerful t1nkl1ng of h1s bell 1S heard day and n1ght A loca mus1c store 1S advert1s1ng the latest record of the s1ng1ng sensat1on Ronald I..1bby H15 soprano voxce has h1t a note beyond the reach of most opera stars The sky 15 11t up by a br1ll1ant S1 n wh1ch we trace to Monk s Used Car Lot Glenn Warnock propr1etor H15 spec1a for th1s week 1S a hot one the beaut1ful gray Inter nat1onal PICKUP formerly owned by Mr J W Lytton Leola Callahan sweeps out all the cars and sh1nes them for sale A huge blllboard 1n our fa1r c1ty tells us that on the com1ng Tuesday Donald Boner w1ll speak on 'How I Spl1t the Atom ' Thls sound 1nterest1ng It 1S ett1ng late and we go 1n the d1rect1on of the large Dena1r Park We hear the Amer 1can eglon band tun1ng up and see 1n f1rst charr cornet Mr Gayle Montgomery who has reached th1s lofty pos1t1on only after years of struggle and pract1ce As a whole, the class of 1952 15 do1ng u1te well or at least as well as could be expected However, there rema1ns a good deal o room for 1mprovement Z3 D l. . .. ..?, . .' .. . . .l .,...
