THE PROPHECY OF CLASS OF 1958 Time: June 7, 1978 Place: Dimple Platz, on the face side of the moon. Event: Reunion of the Class of ' 58, of De Motte High School. By: Pauline Westerhoff, Jane Hoffman, and Karen Peterson. The three of us were in charge of planning the reunion of the class of ' 58. We felt the most appropriate place for the meeting was the moon since Michael Shelhart, ace space explorer, made the first successful trip to and from the moon. Since that time James Edwards, chairman of the World Space Appointment Com- mittee, has given to the United States the side of the moon with the face on it. Richard Kiersma, President of the United States, has appointed Wayne Nuss, the big ranch owner from Indiana, the man in charge of the devel- opment of the United Stat e ' s Moonland. Through our contacting Mr. Nuss’s secretary, Sandra Bennema, arrange- ments were made for the refinion. As we went to the famous C. V. M. Department Store in Gary, Indiana to buy supplies for the meeting, we were surprised to find the owners none other than Jerry Coberly and Elmer Vander Molen of the class of ' 58. Also we learned that Judy Dyke is head of the Personnel Department in their store. Just as we were finished decorating, four guests climbed out of the spaceship that had landed on the moon. We noticed that they had the same pilot we did when we came with the supplies, Jerry Heimlich. The first two people to step off the ship were the famous Paris fashion designers, Carolyn Jackson and her close associate, Judi Berghorst. As we were greeting them, Donald Moolenaar and James Oezer, head photo- graphers for " Life " Magazine stepped off the ship carrying cameras and supplies. As the party progressed we met Herbert De Fries and Judy Griwac, the famous television comedy team known on the screen as Mr. and Mrs. South. Then we saw William Kaper, head coach of De Motte University ' s NCAA championship basketball team talking to Miss Arlene Kingma, founder and head of the A K Studio of Modeling. While we were discussing their accomplishments with Bill and Arlene, Diane Strankosky came and joined our group. She is probably best known for her discovery through research of a cure for cancer. She told us she had done her research in the famous New World Laboratories, established by Dr. Larry Hunter. As we walked on to continue our visiting we met Norman Groet and Thomas Fritts, well-known space detectives. They told us of some of their thrilling experiences. Finally we met Rita Hoffman. She told us that she is happy the whole class could be here. She compli- mented us on the fine party. We felt honored about this compliment since she is the most famous authority on etiquette. As we talked with Sandra Bennema concerning her secretarial job she asked us what we have been doing. We told her we were still dreaming. First is Sandy Bennema, a girl who is known For her friendly smile that is usually shown. She ' ll say hello whenever you meet With a girl like her, it ' s hard to compete. 0 Judi Berghorst is a very fine lass She ' s the Student Council member of our class She ' s really nice, she treats no one mean I ' m sure you ' ll agree that she ' s really keen. u R Jerry Coberly makes us wonder. The boy ' s all call him " Flash " With his big hi -top boots c He’s really quite a crash. T Next we come to Herb De Fries L A He always is quite hip When he is on the basketball floor The girls all seem to flip. S s They tell me that I am next About me there ' s nothing to write But as for the rest of the class I’ll try to write something you ' ll like. p Jim Edwards is our other 0 Student Council represent ' On his studies, like Solid G. E All of his time is spent. M Griwac is the next of course Her first name I know is Judy She ' s sorta short with pretty brown hair She really is a cutie. We have a space here for Tom, Fritts is attached on the back. At football he played his best Nothing did he lack. Then of course we come to Norman Groet He has a dark blue Ford No matter how far from him you are That Ford can still be heard. Then comes Pete Heimlich our class Pres. In sports he’s the best, so every one says. He gets along fine with everyone around. He and his Chevy are all over town. Ah ' Here we have a girl again Her tab says " Jane Hoffman " by I know that she can ride a horse Judy Dyke I hear she does it often. Rita Hoffman is the next in line A girl who is neat, pretty, and fine. But one of her locks always tumbles down About her face it will topple around. Larry Hunter will fit in here They always call him " Sod " To find a guy as friendly as he I think would be quite hard. Here we are up to a girl again Her name is Carolyn Jackson When ever you are around her She ' s keen right down to the fraction. Bill Kaper is the next. Oh ! Boy ! Wild, Wooly, and full of joy. His heart is always full of fun He’ll always speak to every one. Dick Kiersma, now let me see This guy is a tough one He may be quiet part of the time But is always full of fun. Arlene Kingma is an Honor Student A member of the D. A. R. We know that if she trys a bit She ' ll really travel far. Next we have a boy named Don, His last name is Moolenaar He works really hard to continue on I think that he too will go far. Wayne Nuss, who is better known as " Elvis " Is hard to write about, but I can say this His cowboy boots make him look real keen. And without them he’ll probably never be seen. Elmer Vander Molen Is down here towards the last He has a Ford, a green one It really is a blast. Last but not least, is Pauline Westerhoff is her last name. In everything that she does She plays a pretty fair game. Florin C. Williams is our Class Sponsor We choose him above all the rest of the clan To help and guide us through the year. And he really helps us all he can. JUNIOR PLAY 1957 " MAMA’S BABY BOY " Herb D. F. Karen P. Jim O. Sandy B. Carolyn J. Elmer V. M. Arlene H. Judy G. Rita a Diane S. I am the fount from which all blessings flow. Everything that is of value in this world springs from me. I am the salt that gives life its savor. " I am the sole support of the poor, and the rich who think they can do without me live futile lives and fill pre- mature graves. " I have built America. I have built her matchless in- dustries, laid her incomparable railroads, created her cities, and reared her skyscrapers. " I am the friend of every worthy youth. If he makes my acquaintance when he is young and keeps me by his side through- out his life, I can do more for him than the richest parent. ”1 keep bodies lean and fit, minds alert, and when I am neglected both bodies and minds grow fat and sluggish. I am even the parent of genius itself.
