A bit frightening and even overwhelming at times, but new and full of change. Slowly, day by day, we have met the challenges and overcome them. Through the opportunity we have of going to school, we will have our goals met someday. y This year the Freshmen took their first steps in learning about vocations and began filling the requirements for high school graduation. Although the senior yearseemed far into the future for them, they settled into the routine of things and had an outstanding and worthwhile year. - A L U7 if ' i 16-elif A C . . ,A N y , I , , , Aggie? f, we f ' ,C --Gfmareearz-i ' U 9 f ir A , . rf . 1 x.4. Proud of their accomplishments at Delta High School, the Junior Class enjoyed a treasured year. Juniors played an important role in all athletic contests and proved to be adapt at bolstering school spirit and kept the D flying high! A wonderful assembly and the Junior Prom were the climax to a year in which the Juniors were active participants in music, drama, opera and all other things that develop school treasures. After spending some time threading tiny washers on small bolts and placing them in little holes, many Juniors were left wondering what this activity had to do with determining their future roll in life. Yes, their Junior year was filled with tests that started them thinking about the future. Alot is expected of this up-and-coming group. The hardest thing about climbing the ladder of success is to get through the crowd at the bottom. The Juniors have gone part way through the struggle and are reaching for the top. The Juniors would like to say thanks to our officers and advisors for their help and devotion to us. ' The Gifted and Talented program added a new dimension to Delta High this year. Gifted and Talented is a group of students chosen by their teachers to participate in a nation wide program designed to develop the students potential and acquaint them with experiences not aquired in regular classroom activities. During the school year numerous activities were arranged for the studentsg these included a day at the Osmond studios, visting artists, musical programs, a Shakespearian mini course, a day at Davis High combined with a stop at Hansen Planetarium, and a Shakespearian Festival that combined all the talents of the students. The Gifted and Talented program was greatly appreciated by the students and it is hoped that the prograng will continue for years to come. t, if, X Vicki Eliason-Journalism, Dave Abbott-Art, Kurt Alloway-lndus- trial Arts, David Kozina-Math. f .1, Row: Pam Holman-Home Ec., Wade Christensen-Vo. They have worked hard in their areas all during their school years here. All applicants prepared a portfolio of their academic achievements, special awards, and service activities. They were then each interviewed personally by judges and their work was reviewed. The top student in each field was then chosen. Each school has to pay a five hundred dollar fee to have its students eligible to compete. The Senior Class donated one hundred and eighty dollars of their class fund to this project. Think putting a yearbook together is an easy credit and a fun experience? We can tell you that is plain hard work, and Miss Hansen has had 22 years of it, plus two years of teaching us our job. Hard work is nothing new to Miss Hansen. She loves Delta High School and has devoted much time and effort over the years to help us excel. You name the job, Miss Hansen has done it somewhere in her career. She is the librarian, has been yearbook advisor, teacher, photographer, advisor, drama coach for both the opera and the school play, computer data expert and schedule builder to name a few. She has made our library into one of the few Model-Media Centers in the Stale. Those who know her know that she has a generous heart. There are missionaries who could never have gone and college graduates who got their degree because of her. Each year she ordered extra yearbooks and some students whose families were down on their luck at that particular time, would find a yearbook tucked under their arm as they walked down the hall and not a word would be said. Miss Hansen is retiring now and our staff, the faculty, and the studentbody wish her many years ahead to persue her many and varied interests. Thank you Miss Hansen, for all you have done for Delta High School! MK DAMKO Ill health has caused Mrs. Damron to only teach part of this school year. She is a very dedicated teacher and has worked hard to build a language program in our school. ln addition to language she taught English, drama, and speech and debate. She has always gone the extra mile to see that her students succeeded. Her greatest desire is to return to school and she is making good progress. We are all looking forward to having her back with us again. It is hard to go out week after week and take the hard work and the bumps and bruises necessary to keep the game going, and it must be doubly hard when you are not winning all the time. The young and inexperienced Rabbits finished the season with a 4 and 11 record. The early season was frustrati ng with a few wins in non-league play, but with determination and hard work they were able to defeat Grantsville in a very close game. After a long and tedious trip, they defeated Grand in a tough game. High scorers were Russ Church with 15, Kelly Morrill 14, and Reggie Bliss had 13. We were beaten by Emery away, but were able to defeat them at home. On February 23rd Delta met Moab for the second time in the season. They had a good start, but the game remained close. The Rabbits were fouled with one second left and the pressure fell to Russ Church as he went to the line. The Devils thought they could fluster him by calling three time outs in a row, but he kept his concentration and sunk the shot to ice the victory at 63 to 62. Our opponents were Emery, Moab, San Juan, and Millard. We did well enough to reach region. Our team was representative of all the studentbody, as girls from all the grades C9- 121 participated. The things that we will probably all remember most were the long bus rides and the fun we had on them. One night in particular will always remain in our memory, coming back late at night from Emery and having the opportunity to watch the moon come up in all its splendor. A committee, consisting of Russ Lake, Sheila Losee, Jayne Schena, Richard Jacobson, and Shawn Peterson, assisted Kirk in planning an exciting event for every day. The assembly, held at night, was out standing and was presented to an overflow crowd. Students, former royalty, and townspeople, such as Fera and Lois Little, combined to make it a memory to be treasured. The M. C.'s, Emma and Essie CBecky Hansen and Cindy Craftsj were delightful. After many years, the traditional parade was again revived, and the students worked hard to make it the success it was. Half-time at the ballgame was equally enjoyed by alumni and townspeople, as the Band, Flag Unit and Tri-Dels put on a great show. The dance was well attended. J. J. The club has had a number of outstanding activities this year. They were co-sponsors of the Harvest Ball and worked hard to make it a success. Throughout the year they have attended conventions, worked with their animals and entered stock shows and judging contests, worked on the proper proceedure for conducting a meeting and polished their public speaking skills. The Sweetheart Ball was a highlight of the year, and together with the accompanying assembly, was enjoyed by everyone. There are reasons for the various successes they have achieved. These are the hard work and the time put forth by the members and their dedicated advisor, Mr. Little.
