On its pages are pictured im' portant events of the school year and the familiar faces of classmates. As we go through school, we grow farther and farther away from our childhood. Sometimes we like to think back to those carefree days. For this reason, we have chosen Mother Goose for the theme of our yearbook. As you look through its pages, we hope the familiar nursery rhymes and the pictures will bring back to you happy mem' ories, not only of your childhood but also of this year in school. 2 W6 We dedicate The Kalends of 1948 to MISS MARGARET SCHLOTTMAN, instructor of vocal music. The students are especially in' debted to her for the fine instructions received in her classes. Through the grades and high school we have real ized her influence upon us. We appreciate her efforts to make the Girls' Choir, Double Trio, and Mixed and Junior Choruses successful. Their many fine performances dis' play the kindness, patience, and thoughtfulness which are characteristic of Miss Schlottman. We take this opportunity to extend our gratitude for these many things and for the fine co'operation and help she has given us. 3 .0 f .,,.Y..T.. - l l l 1 I l :i 'l'- Rlmc. :LW T u: . l Q : mlf I I5 . . Mother Goose has been busy trying to graduate us and we hope she's done a good job. On a warm sunny morning in September 1944, we entered the halls of D.A. as green freshmen. Mrs. Bramley and Miss Loomis helped Mother Goose give us needed assurance. Tid' Griffin, Peter Honey' well, Paul Scobie, and Bob Brownell were our officers. Our first financial venture was Teen Magic , one of the three one'act plays put on by the different classes. Our girls were properly initiated when they became Cain Raisers. We were all proud when McDowell and Brownell joined the pigskin crew and Dottie Fyffe made the cheering squad. That was the year we lost the heart'breaking basketball game to ,Downsville and Cliff Fitch received an All'Star Emblem. The big event of the year was the night six couples from our class held the daisy chain and formed the court of honor at the gala junior Prom. We ended the year by having a picnic at Silver Lake....remember the ride in the back of the truck? Remember the year when One Meatba1l was the popular song? Our officers that year were Cliff Fitch as president, Marga Deichmann as vice'president, Dottie Fyffe as secretary and Tid Griffin as treasurer Mrs. Arbuckle and Miss Flint gave us the helping hand and, with a senior trip in view, we started paying class dues. That was the year when D.A.'s athletic department really shone. We had one of the most successful football teams in our history. That year we successfully trounced Downsville in basketball and won the county championship. The school also proudly received the Good Sportsmanship award. Johnny Adams is the only remaining one of that great team. 0ur class was especially happy over the seventeen wins of the Iayvees....no wonder our team was so good in 1948. This year we went to Gil' bert Lake for our picnic and had lots of fun. By 1946, Mother Goose was a little worried about us because our finances were so low. With Eleanor Kent as our president, Marjorie Oliver, Bob McDowell, and Eleanor Tweedie as our other officers, we really made this year count. Most of the high school students took First Aid .... the remedy for poisons was f.d.r. tfill, drain, and refillj .... remember? Our Junior Banquet was a big success and a lot of fun .... Kentinsky and Leeinsky at the duo'pianos .... the 8 Squares from Delaware really hitting it .... the Acad- emy Sisters in I Double Dare You. We sold Christmas cards and had a ba.ke'sale in order to scrape up a little more moolah. Can we ever forget Gladyce Fitch's Rabbits Plus ? .... with her fast multi' plying rabbits, Gladyce took first place in the coimty championship. In April we began to flash our fingers around and the seniors looked down long enough to notice that the Junior Class rings had arrived. Suddenly the responsibility of a Junior Prom dawned on us and we had a few bad moments for awhile. But finally the gym was decorated in our Stairway to the Stars theme and we were ready for the big night. Dottie Fyffe and Paul Scobie were crowned King and Queen and a good time was had by all Ceven the clean'up committee, thanks to the custodiansj. It was cold at Gilbert Lake but we had fun, gnywa,y....it wasn't so cold in the boat, was it, girls? When the Class of '48 showed up last September, Mother Goose felt like the old woman who had so many children she didn't know what to do. Instead of spanking us soimdly, she put us all in the study hall. Although we were sorry to leave our advisers of two years, we were happy to find that Miss Tubbs was to help us through this last year. Eleanor Kent was re'elected as president so we knew we would make a success of this year. johnny Bramley was vice'president and Marjorie Oliver secretary. johnny Adams really had to force the dues out of us but we didn t regret it after that trip to New York. Our first bake' sale was such a success that we had another one in February. Without a doubt, our senior play was one of the best in a long time. Besides being a huge financial success, it was hilariously funny .... Hildegarde's beauty mud .... the can of worms....Iohnny standing trouserless in the doorway. It seemed as if Mr. DeGel' leke made an announcement every morning about the stationery we were selling....did we ever get rid of it all? Our football team was good and we beat Walton in the pouring rain....what a gamell Although we missed seeing Cliff on the floor, we had a wonderful basketball team this year. The game here with Schen' evus was one of the best played. Of course, we seniors were proud of the first string....Big Dave Lee and Scobie were high'scorers all season. Finally the twenty-second of April arrived and we went to New York. Our hard'earned money was soon used up but we had a wonderful time. The Senior Ball went off smoothly and graduation week rolled aroimd. It is a year like our senior one that we will remember all our lives. In fact, our whole class history is unforgettable. 24 '+I 7,--f + F,,..4-- ,,...-.....- ,......i- i .,. --- ---- ---f-' -..........1.- -----....... i- V..----'f ........
