Kathy McRae- Teaches me about Poe. Darlene Hill- Teaches speed reading but I m stlll 5-1.- -W. Geraldine Sisneros- In her reading class tells me about her new muchacho. 1 ,l Ab. UN RELIE VES HARD WORK 5 Fun combined with hard work fills Middle School students' time. A trtp to the hills taught wilder- ness survival skills: one class took a bus to the Sand Dunes to study the flora and fauna. Mrs. Vanlwarden 's choir gave a concert of Spanish folk songs, recorded by Ruth Marte Colvllle. All songs were sung In Spanish with Mrs. Martinez and Mr. Chavez helplng In the pronounclatlon of the words. Afterwards. the cholr was rewarded for their successful concert with a trip to Taos, New Mexico. More fun. mixed with hard work, includes intra-murals tn boys' and girls' basketball: flag- football for sixth grade boys: spirit week celebra- tions before a big game. Teachers also make learning fun and funny. For example, Mrs. Harrl- son assigned her classes a theme to write on How to make a Peanut Butter Sandwich. The next day she made a sandwich based on student theme directions. She even had to spread the goo- ey stuff with her fingers as no one wrote .to use a kntfe. The most fun of all was to have the new Middle School library open with lots of new books and with a very helpful librarian. Someday we'll look back and say.
