The Seventies - a decade of disco, punkrock, skateboarding, jogging, Watergate, inflation, space travel and womens' lib - provided people of all ages with challenges, fun times, and Beautiful memories. No one knows what the 1980's will bring. The next ten years could bring to us many changes that even the wildest imagination could not picture. Who knows where space travel could lead us, what type of fuel we will be using, what we will be doing for entertainment or what job opportunities will be available to us. The previous years have guided us toward graduation. Our future in the next years can be great if we make the right choices today. Follow the signs that point to an exciting school year caught in the middle of two decades. .33 a 5 . n e 2.9 - I 1. vu '-nu-.lm . 1, fl Y NW'- 'hue i Q , A 4 H tg.. l if ,.,,,,.f . - if Q 2. 9-sl' ' 1 D fi Q. mb?-Lf ss. They have had a great time planning activities and sharing events in their everday life. Their goal is to recognize students and understand each other as individuals through God's love, with no specific religion as a requirement to join. The group's activities consisted of showing some educational films at the high school: three of the titles were: The Cross and the Switchbladen, Thief in the Night , and Distant Thunder . The organization has been enjoyed by those who participated. The purpose for this group is to unite the Anglo and Spanish students interested in learning about the Spanish culture. The club has met weekly throughout the year promoting a recruitment drive. To help raise money, they have sold burritos every Tuesday and Thursday. A trip was planned by the group to visit Iuarez, Mexico, in the spring. Assistant Superintendent The Del Norte Administration had a very active year keeping up with all the demands of their jobs. There was one overall goal that each administrator had and that was for each graduating, senior to be as competent and well educated as any other senior from an urban school. The goal of the teachers was to look at new ideas and methods of teaching. To help in working toward this goal, the faculty held curriculum meetings at the close of each nine weeks period. Even with all the pressures and problems encountered throughout the year, it was a successful and eventful one. 1 1, ttf ,. Win fi . ob ' clfido M0129-J f ttfliflgf Xl , S t K T F-ff' l . Each has his own unique way of teaching, of disciplining, of participating, in extra- curricular student activities. Each is respected for his uniqueness. Students are given a variety of ways and opportunities to learn. The large number of graduates who successfully go on to further education indicates teachers are educating. 111 L. D. But when a member of the school per- sonnel is absent we suffer. Their jobs are most impor- tant to our welfare, be it the food we eat at lunch, the bus we ride, the aspirin the nurse dispenses for our headaches, or the key to E unlock the door and bring us in out of the cold. Every day of the school year we are made aware of their 1 importance for a smoothly functioning school. ,ta :gif Tam Ill Custodial supervisor, Barney Black. The band did an excellent job this year, especially since the enrollment decreased from fifty-nine in the years 78-79 to thirty-nine for this year. They started out the year by making the trip to Colorado Springs for Air Force Academy Band Day and all through the year they have supported our teams at the home games with an outstanding effort. They played at all the pep assemblies which helped raise the spirit tremendously. If it weren't for the band this year, the Tigers wouldn't have been half as peppy. The school really appreciated all of the support the band provided. STAGE BA The Stage Band this year has really Got-it-Together and are always practicing to improve. The school's acquiring a video camera and tape recorder has made a change in the appearance of the band. After seeing themselves on T.V. IThanks to cameraman Mr. Murphyl, most saw ways to look more professional: for example, Sam Gonzales puts on quite a show, playing the guitar behind his head and playing notes with his teeth. The Tigers had a couple of major setbacks which gave them a slow start, but by the end of the season they were once again known as the Mean Machine. One setback was the large number of inexperienced players. There were only three returning veteran seniors. That was hardly enough to fill the spot left by the sixteen graduated seniors of last year. This year was not one of our best on the scoreboard, but it surely was in potential and stamina as Tiger Pride will live forever. 1. Some girls attended many disco lessons and showed great talent, by doing and teaching the dances to other squad members. Disco dancing to Murphy's music made the pep assemblies a great success: the pom pon girls danced in the auditorium aisles while the cheerleaders were performing on the stage. Having the pom pon girls perform brought added entertainment to pep assemblies and games. PEP! PU CH! POWER! THEY Ff- Q - e . 1. 5'- f' I V544 X 'iff' 7 86 .- A 3- Ki.. ll RM. r fur Q, LI 41 ' Agfa . She has also done a great job supporting Tiger Teams throughout the years. 4. janet Atencio: lanet is a second year cheerleader but this is her first year with varsity. She is a top performer, doing difficult stunts and motions with ease. What do you get when you put the Varsity and Iunior Varsity Cheerleaders together? One great squad of talented girls.
