Walker The Del Mar Varsity Football Team did not fare too well this year. We were victorious against only one other team in the SCVAL West division, Sunnyvale High. ln all the rest we went down in defeat, even though several were close and could have gone either way. In our first league start, we put up a stiff battle against the Fremont Indians for three quarters. At Santa Clara, we lost by an offside penalty which nullified what would have been a winning touchdown. Under the lights at los Gatos our Dons had the ball for nearly twice as many offensive plays as did the opposition, but could not defend against the long passes of the 'Cats. We made a poor showing in the first two stanzas of the Thanksgiving Day pageantwith our new ly initiate rival, Camden High. We did come back in the second half to hold the Cougars, but our 19 points in those final two periods were not enough to match their 25. Some have said that if there would have been another quarter to play in that contest that the fired-up Dons would have come out on top.
