The New Look This is the beginning of the age when education is the key to national defense and economy. Deering is keeping up with the times. Through the summer and the school year, many areas of Deering have taken on a new look. The greatest improvements have been made in the language and science departments. A language laboratory has been established with funds allocated by the National Defense Education Act. There has been extensive expansion and revision in the Science De- partment, providing new laboratory, classroom and preparation room areas. In addition, the latest equip- ment has been installed in the chemistry and physics laboratories. XVith a greater enrollment than ever before, en- largements in the cafeteria were necessary. Now the food lines are better equipped to serve recess snacks and lunch meals more quickly and easily. Teachers, too, benefitted from these improvements through a new teachers lunchroom. The overcrowded conditions in the gym have been relieved by the conversion of a classroom and part of the area behind the building into a modern exercise room. New food-preparation counters in the home eco- nomics room, a larger library, more office space and a new guidance suite round out Deering's answer to the growing demands for improvements and expansion in education. .Xfier all, even Brigitte Bardot knows how to speak French.
