Now under the direction of Miss Ring, the department requires all college course freshmen to take the ancient history program, and all upperclassmen to study United States history and the Constitution of Blaine for one year. Nlodern liuropean History is a senior elective, and United States Government is given for students in the general course. The only probable change in the department is a proposed UVO-yeftl' course in the history of our country. ' Because ol crowded conditions, the library has been used both as a homeroom and a classroom, During class periods Mrs. Doane, with the help ol' student librarians, has operated from her new ol'- lice. .Xlthough the year has been hectic, many improvements have been made. The room has been extended, and next year it will be made even larger. The library's budget increase allowed the School to buy two new encyclopedias, several relerenre books, and more general reading items. The library also received many new science books through the National Defense liducation Act. Fifty books every two months filtered through the library because ol the school's participation in the traveling science library program. sift One of llc!-ring's ambitious students checks out a book. vi' 'fd 'A'5I1- . f n. qd, ,R . .Aa ...,, I, 'U ff- f -.,- . .gp HISTORY DEPT: Head 4 Miss Ring.
