Horton, the Pathiinders have completed one of their most successful years, one which marks the fourteenth anniversary of the foundation of the club which has grown from the original twenty members until it now includes more than three hundred and seventy mothers of D. H. S. and L. H. S. pupils. The purpose of the club is to promote friendship between mothers themselves, to provide a means of communication between parents, pupils and teachers and to help the general welfare of the school whenever possible and also to assist one or more worthy students who shall have completed a four year course in D. H. S. and shall have graduated therefrom, to obtain a higher education, and, for that purpose, to obtain fundsf' So far, six meetings have been held, all in the auditorium of D. I-I. S. At the first meeting in October Mrs. Burton Preston of the Longfellow Garden Club was guest speaker. Her sub- ject was The Conservation of Wild Flowers and Birds. The November meeting was ad- dressed by Dr. Ernest C. Marriner of Colby College who spoke on What's Happening to the Mother Tongue? The December meeting was an enjoyable one presented by the Dramatic Club at D. H. S. This was a Christmas pageant of The Nativity by Rosamond Kimball. In January the Annual Fathers' Night was held. This took place on a Friday night in order that the students from both schools might participate. Previous to the entertainment, the school rooms were open for inspection by the parents, an innovation much appreciated by all who took advantage of the opportunity. Contrary to the previous custom of holding one of the regular meetings at L. H. S., in February the pupils of that school entertained us in the auditorium of the larger High School. They gave us a most enjoyable entertainment called An Hour With Books. In March we heard a stimulating address by Mrs. B. D. Burhoe on the subject of What Is Guidance? Each of the meetings has had its share of musical accompaniment, provided by the pupils of the schools. The annual drive for funds for the Scholarship project this year was very successful, enabling us to help several deserving students. This year, as for some time in the past, we held Path- finders Week at the Strand and Empire theatres, through the courtesy of Mr. Goodside. At that time, all the Special Pathfinders' tickets were recognized at the box office and a sizable per cent of the proceeds given us for our fund. The Literary Club is a branch of the Pathfinders' Club composed of- members and their friends who are particularly interested in prominent books of the day. All the reviews but one by Prof. Bertocci were given in Room 213. It is the custom of the Club to have two books re- viewed ar a meeting-one of current fiction by a member of the club, and an non-fiction book by a member of the faculty or some one outside. At least once during the year, Mrs. Holt brings us some person particularly fitted to review a book of more profound significance. This year Prof. Bartocci of Bates College gave a masterly review of Assignment in U topia.
