roups serve school ey Club is a service organization fairly new to Deer Valley. There are 54 members this year. It has been very successful considering it is not even a year old, commented Mrs. Dannene Truett, sponsor. This year alone they participated in a canned food drive, visited two nursing homes, and helped host the international convention. The National Honor Society consists ot about 75 members. This year they had their first trivia-thon, they trick or treated for UNICEF, and donated to the Toys for Tots. Ms. Laura Fore explained that she became a sponsor because, NHS has great kids and it is a teacher's duty to do something other than be a teacher from 7:45 to 2:15. Miss Nelson, also a sponsor of NHS, commented, I believe it is one of the most outstanding and motivated groups on this campus. There are about 160 members in the i Vocational Honor Society. Mrs. Gerald explained, its purpose is to recognize students with outstanding vocational skills. The Deer Valley chapter of VHS was the first one this side of the Mississippi and they celebrated their first graduating class last year. They are also planning to have a career day this year. IMPACT is a national home economics club. Some of its purposes are to strengthen the function of the family, to encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community, and to provide opportunities for decision making and for assuming responsibility. Some of their projects this year included making fruit baskets to take to Hawaiian Gardens, going Christmas caroling at Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital, and having a picnic at Thunderbird Park. Mrs. Thul commented, The students who have been coming are dedicated and want to help. The students make the club. l!-Ii CD Key Club.
