earbook adds color, pages, pizazz nder the leadership ot seniors l-iolly Dickinson, editor-in-chief, and Danny Rhoades, assistant editor, the stait ot 33 began planning the 1987 Soaring in the spring of 1988. Full-scale production be- gan in early September. Thousands ot pictures were shot, processed and printed, hundreds ot pagesot copy were written, countless hours were spent on layout and design, large amounts ot pizza were ea- ten, and 12 hour days became the norm in order to produce the book you are now reading. The whole staff contributed in the long hours spent during and after school in the production of the 1987 Soaring. I will cherish so many memories about this year and our 'tarnily', com- mented Holly. We had a young statt but ev- eryone pulled through to carry on the tradition ot excellence, added Dan. Results of iast year'-s efforts paid off tor Soaring '86, At the Ari- zona lnterscholastic Press Asso- ciation QAIPAD Convention on November 4, last year's annual won the state award for the best use of color in the opening section. The book also won a second place rating in the nation from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. And whether it was their tra- dition oi winning tirst place rat- ing by the National Scholastic Press Association and the Co- lumbia Scholastic Press Asso- ciation or their long standing tradition ot carrying away awards at state and national conventions, the Flightwas on top ot things again. We had an excellent staff this year, said Mike Sortino, editor-in-chief, l feel like we made a lot ot positive Janet Regan, iunior, pauses from working on the current issue of the Skyhawk Flight. The general 'look' of the paper was refined and brought into the 8O's, and we student-related stories. 1 feel that we succeeded. Mike explained that the en- tire staff was outstanding. We tried to work as a team to put out the Flight and not have star' players who carried the whole work load. The profes- sionalism and dedication of the staff made me proud. Without the support and dedication oi our adviser, Ms. Diane Houpt, we would never have had the great year we did, concluded Mike. Newspaper.
