Lenda Barker is an individual who has many facets to her personality. She has been teaching for 21 years. Arizona State University is where she earned both her B.A. and her Masters degree. Teaching a class like outdoor adventure, she gets the oppor- tunity to know her students more personally. The outdoor adventure group takes field trips to places like the Grand Canyon to hike the l-favasupai trail and fishing in Payson. When not crosscountry skiing fishing, hunting or horseback riding, she enjoys spending time at her second home at Stoneman Lake. Mrs. Barker said, My person al view of life is to be able to fit in to the outdoor life and also the social atmosphere. Mrs. Barker takes a break from her busy schedule. Mr. McSpadden attended Phoenix College and then went on to study Industrial Education at Arizona State University. Besides attending school full time, l spent 40 hours a week running my own screen printing and photo business. he said. Working with high school stu- dents on stage craft influ- enced him in making the deci- sion to teach. He chose high school because he felt that the students would be easier to re- late to because of their matur- ity Aside from teaching, lvlr. McSpadden enjoys playing racquetball, working with his computer, and building model airplanes. I do a little bit of everything, but my job keeps me out of other extra-curricu- lar activities I used to be in- volved with. he commented. Mr. McSpadden enjoys the students and appreciates those who try their hardest whether or not they succeeed. Deer Valley, as a whole, is a good school. Ninety per cent of the students are Qreat. lt's the other ten per cent that cause the headaches, he said. Mr. McSpadden feels that contributing time to his stu- dents is very important, Most ' students will talk to me when they have a problemg that's good when you're a teacher. - Mr. McSpadden has no radical I plans for the futureg he would just like to improve on what he's doing now.
