Lenda Barker is an individual who has many facets to her personality. She has been teaching for 21 years. Arizona State University is where she earned both her B.A. and her Masters degree. Teaching a class like outdoor adventure, she gets the oppor- tunity to know her students more personally. The outdoor adventure group takes field trips to places like the Grand Canyon to hike the l-favasupai trail and fishing in Payson. When not crosscountry skiing fishing, hunting or horseback riding, she enjoys spending time at her second home at Stoneman Lake. Mrs. Barker said, My person al view of life is to be able to fit in to the outdoor life and also the social atmosphere. Mrs. Barker takes a break from her busy schedule. MUSIC MOTIVATES TEENS ith a degree in music education, Mr. Ron Dickson directs the Skyhawk band. As a graduate of Golden City East, Michigan, Mr. Dickson moved to Ari- zona in 1979 to use his major instrumental music to teach teens. For one year he took the position of assistant di- rector at Thunderbird High School before mov- ing to Saquaro High to di- rect himself for another four years. He has been directing the band here at Deer Valley for three years now. Outside of school Mr. Dickson enjoys such ac- tivities as racquetball, tennis, and golf. Occa- sionally he will also um- pire for the baseball and softball games at various high schools. I really enjoy it here at Deer Valley, Dickson comments. The kids are really great, not just as students, but also as people. During his free time Mr. Dickson helps out one of his stu- dents.
