MIXED EMDTIONS REFLECT GN TYING SEASON he Varsity football team broke even with a 5-5 record this season. The Skyhawks played well as they shut out Corona del Sol 7-O in the season opener. Matt Witkowski, junior received an eight yard pass from quarter back Nick Portonova, senior in the endzone marking the Skyhawks first victory of the season. Four more victories surfaced after Deer Valley's slaying of the Aztecs. Perhaps the most heartfelt or emotional victory was against Greenway Q21-125. Greenway was a game we had to win. Since Greenway is right next door, they are one of our biggest rivals. Greenway was a game we had to win. The game determined who has bragging rights in the pizza parlor that year. Quipped head coach Tony Valenzuela. Perhaps the closest game of the season was the infamous Apollo-Deer Valley game. The Skyhawks and Hawks were in a neck and neck competition for the win. Q14-141. As the clock ticked off the min- utes into overtime, Apollo stood victori- ous. NOT by scoring a touchdown, or even kicking a field goal, but by gaining three more yards than the Skyhawks. The final score was, Q15-141. Bobby Santa Maria, junior was quoted saying , We did good, but we could of done better.
