We Dedicaieu, this the 1960 volume of the HORNET to Mr. J. J. Kelly, Jr., who has contributed many years of faithful and generous service to education-not just to us here at Deep Creek High School and Norfolk County, but in many other places in Virginia. After earning a B.A. degree in English, Latin, and Math at the University of Vir- ginia, Mr. Kelly began his teaching career in 1915 in Isle of Wright County, moving from there to the Suffolk Public Schools, Fairfax County, and Accomack County. In 1926 he came into Norfolk County to take the principalship at Great Bridge High School, where he remained for many years. Later he resumed his teaching at Portlock where he was chairman of the Math De- partment. When South Norfolk annexed Portlock, Mr. Kelly chose to remain in the county, so in 1951 we at Deep Creek were fortunate to acquire his services. Mr. Kelly is a member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Suffolk. Among some of his professional and civic affiliations in- clude his being past president of NCEA, a member and past president of the Great Bridge Ruritan Club Cof which he is a chart- er member nowj, and a member and past master of the Great Bridge Masonic Lodge, No. 257, A.F. and A.M. fof which he is also presently a charter memberb. A gentleman and a leader of young people, Mr. Kelly has won the friendship of all those with whom he has come in contact. We, the Senior Class, speak with deep admiration in saying that we are extremely proud to have been associated with such a dedicated man to education. Mr. J. J. Kelly, Jr.
