Www We the Sentor Class of 1956 pause at the threshold of our graduatton and look back wrth a feel mg of prtde tn four happy years together We would ltke to have you Jotn us as we take a glrmpse tnto the past We entered our Freshman year wrth a deep sense of tnsecurtty wondertng what the next four years would brrng Under the gurdance of our homeroom teachers Mrss Bowers and Mr Campbell we weathered that Freshman year They contrrbuted greatly to the establrshtng of the hrgh standards that we boost today Our Sophomore year was set tn ftne rhythm wtth Mrs McAfee and Mrs Marshall as homeroom teachers We feel we were a ltttle more rndustrtous that year we worked harder tn our academtc work as well as tn extra currtcular acnvtttes Both boys and gtrls began to take acttve parts rn athlettcs forenstc acttvtnes, S C A and all clubs Many began to hold offtces tn these orgamzattons Rarsrng money for that great affatr the Junror Sentor Prom began wtth a very successful Hobo Dance at whrch ttme a huge group of students enyoyed themselves tmmensely Our Iuntor year was started wtth even more enthustasm than before Thrs year our class sponsors were Mrs McAfee and Mrss Hood The class really felt a deep sense of responstbrlrty to the school and therefore set out to achteve many goals One of the htghlrghts of our Juntor year was our wonderful Chrtstmas party gtven tn our own homeroom amtd so many beauttful decorattons that everyone tn school came to see them In the sprrng much enthustasm and co oneratron was shown tn preparatron for the Junror Sentor Prom Our funds were not suffrctent for the many splendtd plans that we had made so we agatn took up out money maktng program We tncreased our treasury tremendously by sellrng programs at the football games gtvrng dances and sellmg candy at the basketball games Havmg a Juke Box gtven to the class dances were easter and less expensrve to grve Of all our many dances before the Prom one rs just a lrttle more spectal than all the others Thrs was the Valentrne Sweetheart Dance Connte Hengel was crowned as Sweetheart of the Dance by her date Gayle Culpepper both Jumors Next was the btg event The theme of the Sentors was Our Tomorrow Deptctrng thts the setttng was A Stdewalk Cafe from whtch guest observers could watch The Rocket betng launched to the moon After all the excrtement and enyoyment of gettrng the gym decorated wrth blue and srlver crepe paper the awnrngs and brtck stdtng up and a large stlver Rocket Shrp rn the center of the floor the best was yet to come On the evenmg of May 20 we enyoyed one of the most momentous occasrons of our entrre htgh school years attendtng our own Junror Sentor Seerng the Sentors enter the Prom wrth beam mg smrles of apprecratton as they eyed the decorattons made all our efforts worthwlule Near the end of the year we became very excrted about orderrng our rmgs We knew tt would be a brg moment for each of us to have that specral class rmg on our frnger In May the annual staff for the 56 Hornet was selected wtth Crarg Barkley as Edrtor rn chlef Amtd all the happy memorres of the past three years we have frnally reached the tttle Senrors And what makes tt even more excrtrng rs that we are the ftrst Sentor Class tn the new Deep Creek Htgh School In our Sentor year our dtvtded groups have ftnally been brought together tn one btg homeroom of thtrty ntne We are very fortunate and proud to have Mrs McAfee as our sponsor agatn thts year T her for her devotton love patrence gutdance humor and understandmg we grve our deepest ap precratton Many events stand out tn our Sentor year Our trrp to Charlottesvtlle tn the fall to see the football game was most enroyable In preparrng for the rrng dance we had our frrst chance to use our Sentor Class colors Old Rose and Srlver The memorable moment ftnally arrrved when Mr Jones presented our rtngs to us and Mrs McAfee placed them on our ftnger Our Chrtstmas party was wonderful wtth the Chrtstmas tree exchange of gtfts beautrful decora ttons Chrrstrnas games and that true Chnstmas sptrrt Followtng our mtd term exams, we started to work on our Sentor Class play Acctdental Hero was selected whtch tncluded almost everyone tn the class Plannrng for our Sentor Trtp was so excrttng that we could hardly wart to get started on tt Of the many events of our htgh school years we have now reached the most outstandrng one of great honor one that has requtred twelve long excrttng years of preparattons one that wrll never vantsh from our mtnds and one that can never be equaled yes we have ftnally reached graduatton Susan Culpepper 20 , . . -I o 1 .
