Hailing from our own state of Massachusetts, he skillfully led our country through difficult times. As individuals, we watched his rise to the Presidency, and as part of a nation, we mourned his loss in No- vember of our senior year. Never before in the course of our lives have we been confronted by so great a man. We hope that by his example we shall grow to become better Americans. 5., i 'fri ' To Mr. Charles Quale, the Class of 1964 owes a great debt of gratitude. Not only as an advisor, but also as a friend, he served us tirelessly. Our two proms would not have been half the success that they were, had it not been for his ingenuity and hard work. Mr. Quale, a typing, accounting, and book- keeping instructor, has been to our class a fine consultant throughout our years at Dedham High. Z' Lf ix . l X 5. This year's team, composed mostly of seniors, compiled the best record of any Dedham squad in fourteen years. A great deal of credit should be given to Head Coach Paul Dorrington and his assistants. Since coming to Dedham High last year, Coach Dorrington has built Dedham into a football powerhouse. The line, consisting of ends Rich Wfeber and Will Payne, tackles Barry Andersen and Bob Strickland, guards Paul Doyle and Don Mullen, and center Captain Jim Holland, was, as expected, one of the finest in the league. Dedham's hard running backs, Russ Goyette and Jim McKillop at the halves, quarterback Bill Rooney, and All-Scholastic fullback Larry Taylor, formed the best backfield in the league. The high point of the season was Dedham's upset tie of league champion Milton. In Coach Demp- sey's first year at' Dedham High, his team compiled a fine,10-8 record and was in contention for the championship all the way. This year with returning seniors, Will Payne, Mike Walonis, Bill Rooney, Ron jansson, and Wally Peterson, the team hopes to equal or even surpass last year's record. If some of the coach's winning attitude rubs off on the boys, we are sure they can be successful. Say cheese, Bill. semoks . .. Sw 'N ACWON fb' Nice form, Wfally. Although the team was composed mostly of underclass- ,N M men, three seniors, Cap- 5 4, tain Dell King, Rich fi Rv 'K l S Moscatelli, and Tom Y Murray, did a creditable job. Two outstanding members of the squad were Carl Hanlon and Jim Prevett, both jun- iors. Left zo Rigloz-ffrontj: R. Moscatelli, R. Peterson, W. Gates, D. King, C. Hanlong Hopi: G. Bergan, R. Benson, R. Most of their foes were in a higher class, but our boys never gave up. This year's squad did produce the Class C 600-yard champion, Rich Moscatelli. The high-point man was john Murphy, who ran the hurdles, high jumped, and ran in the relay. Looking forward to the outdoor season, the boys hope to make up for their disappointing winter. The majority of last year's team has returned, and under the direction of Coach Lofts McGuire and co-captains Murphy and Moscatelli the team should be very successful. Lefz to Rigbl Kbonomj: Coach L. TECH TOURNEY PARTICIP They said it couldnt be done but our basketball team did it After a previous season with only two wins the Dedham hoopsters improved enough to qualify for the Tech Tourney At one point in the year the boys had a 4 4 record but with a great spurt and under pressure they won 8 out of their last 10 Coach Bill Young s team led by Senior all stars Mike Domenica and Art Marquardt never gave up in any game The playmaking chores were handled capably by Art Frei tas Don McKee and Larry Taylor while rebounding and shooting came from Dohn Miller Rich Weber Pete Hull and George Close. This year was the first since 1947 that a Dedham team qualified for Tech Tourney. In the first round, our boys clobbered Charlestown 59-36, but in the second round, ran up against a great Braintree team and were disqualified. Even though the boys didn't go far, we can be proud of them for having such a fine season and participating in the Tourney. Things are looking up. . x 1 W. i QUALIFY FOR TOURNE Y The upswing in Dedham athletics continued into the hockey season. Although the team wasn't too highly regarded at first, it blossomed into a really fine squad. Most of the credit for the success of the team should be given to Coach john Dooley and Captain jim McCann. Coach Dooley brought the boys along slowly and used his players very wisely. Captain McCann was the best goalie in the league and perhaps the state. His tremen- dous goal-tending alone won many games. Three other seniors also contributed greatly to the team. Bill Mahoney and Barry Andersen held down the defensemen positions. They worked well together to keep the opposing forwards honest. Don Brooks skated hard all year and scored two big goals when the team beat Natick 3-1 to qualify for the State Tourney, Two highlights of the season were the upset 3-1 win over League champ, Norwood, and the upset 2-1 win over Gloucester in the State Hockey Tourney. The girls lost two heart-breaking games while tying the remaining games. A most enjoyable evening VALENTINES DANCE The month of February contains numerous holidays and events, in- cluding the DHS Valentine's Dance. This semi-formal affair on Feb- ruary lj, 1964, provided an excellent opportunity for members of all three classes to socialize in a Valentines Day atmosphere. Sponsored by the Music Association, and featuring the Westwood High School Dance Band for entertainment, the evening was certainly a heart's delight. 0N THE FIELD OR ON THE STAGE l i l l........ l it-uuqzni Oops, forgot to clean my sneakers! A most important musical organization, the band played a major part in the success of many school functions. Under the able direction of Mr. Robert Shreve, the band urged our team on to victory in the fall, intro- duced school assemblies, and faithfully played the school song at pep rallies. A select group of talented musicians formed the highlyfsuccessful dance band which enlivened school dances and demonstrated DHS musi- cal unity in an assembly. The band certainly deserves our praise and thanks for its entertainment and full cooperation. SENIOR MEMBERS Sealed: J. Monaghan, J. Lipp, F. Clasquin, K. Whitney, J. Hughes, G. Byers, Row Two: T.
