STUDENTS 1851. 15 Lucy Anna Calder, daughter of James and Anna H. (Baker) Calder, was born in Dedham, May 6, 1835. Attended the school three years. She was for many years a teacher in Dedham, where she died Sept. 10, 1887. Elizabeth Fuller Capen, daughter of Oliver and Sarah A. (Whiting) Capen, was born June- 20, 1836. Attended the school two years and a half. Dedham, Mass. Theresa I. Carret, daughter of Joseph and Eliza H. Garret, attended the school one year. Charles Whiting Carroll, son of Sanford and Harriet (Whiting) Carroll, was born May 31, 1836, in Dedham. He attended the school four years, fitting for college, and grad- uated at Dartmouth College, A. B. 1859. Admitted to the Bar March, 1861, having read law with T. L. Wakefield, Esq. Married Lucy A. Farwell at Foxboro, Mass., July 30, 1861. Served in the War of the Rebellion. Was commissioned for three years as First Lieut. Co. F. 18th Regt. Mass. Vols. July 26, 1861. Promoted Capt. Oct. 29, 1861. He was with his regiment in the Army of the Potomac, and was in the follow- ing engagements: Siege of Yorktown, Peninsular Campaign, and second Bull Run, Aug. 30, 1862, where he fell mortally wounded, dying on the field three days after. Capt. Ca rroll ' s loss was keenly felt by his brother officers and the enlisted men of the regiment, as he was a gallant soldier and a kind friend. In the memory of him the Grand Army Post of this town took its name. Augltstus G. Chandler, son of Josiah and Ann Desire (Wight) Chandler, was born in Dedham, Oct. 3, 1837. At- tended the school one year. Married Louise A. Chandler at Sackville, New Brunswick, August, 1864. Their children are Nellie Winsmore, 21 ; Howard Trueman, 8. He died in 1889, in Dorchester. Samuel W. Clapp, son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth D. (Clapp) Clapp was born in Dedham, Feb. 18, 1832. Attended the school three months and graduated from the Normal school at Bridgewater, Mass. Married Alice S. Lyon, at St. Joseph,

Mr. Clapp was Government-Surveyor Indian Territory, 1862. Member of Railroad Brigade of Han- nibal and St. Joseph R. R. for three years. Civil engineer. Fort Scott, Kansas. Agnes White Clark, daughter of Joseph W. and Eleanor (Jackson) Clark, attended the school one year. Married Charles Van Brunt. Boston, Mass, Isabelle Frances Cobb, daughter of Jonathan Holmes and Sophia (Doggett) Cobb, was born in Dedham, April 19, 1835. Attended the school one year. Married Frederic H. French, May 2, 1860, at Dedham. Their children are Isabelle C. Marion H., Anna R., Frank D., Frederic H., John D., and Abram. Dedham, Mass. Ellen Harod Crehore, daughter of Jeremiah and Joanna (Dunbar) Crehore, was born July 1, 1835, in Milton, Mass. Attended the school one year. Attended private schools in Roxbury and Boston. Mis s Crehore taught school fifteen years ; was a member of the School Board, Dedham, six years ; Secretary of Associated Charities, five years. Walnut Hill, Mass. Catherine Shapley Damrell, daughter of William S. and Adeline N. Damrell, was born in Boston, Nov. 9, 1835. Attended the school three years. Taught in the D wight School, Boston. Married John E. Gowland at Dedham, Dec. 27, 1858. Died in Dedham, Jan. 18, 1860. Mary E. B. Day, daughter of Joseph and Anna E. (Rhoades) Day, was born in South Dedham, Sept. 9, 1837. Attended the school one term. Married Francis M. Cragin, M. D., May 1, 1869. Died at Norwood, Mass., Aug. 1, 1888. James Spencer Drayton, son of James H. and Nancy D. Drayton, was born in Boston, Oct. 16, 1837. Attended the school two years. Served in the War of the rebellion. Enlisted May 19, 1861, in Second Mass. Battery. Appointed Quarter-
