12 DEDHAM HIGH SCHOOL. Mrs. S. D. Austin was an assistant from Sept. to Dec, 1871. Frances Abby Mathes was assistant teacher from Dec., 1871, to March, 1873. She is the daughter of Nathan Folsom and Mary Frances (Folsom) Mathes, born in Portsmouth, N. H., Nov. 23, 1846, and educated in the public schools of Portsmouth and at the Maplewood Institute, Pittsfield, Mass. Taught in Bradford Academy from March, 1873, to July, 1877. Has been assistant in Portsmouth High School since Feb., 1882. 1 Bock Street, Portsmouth, JST. H. Mary Wheaton Taft, a graduate of the school ; taught drawing in 1877, one term. See 1870. Annie Emily Curtis, taught drawing in the school from September, 1877, to June, 1878. She was the daughter of John and Anne Matilda (Greenwood) Curtis, born in Provi- dence, R. I., Nov. 10, 1859, and educated in Providence schools and the Mass. Normal Art School. Taught in St. Agnes School, Albany, N. Y., 1878-1882. Married William Blodget in Providence, April 25, 1883. Their son, William Power, was born Feb. 10, 1885. Mrs. Blodget died in Provi- dence, March 13, 1885. Ella C. Green, taught drawing from Sept., 1878, to June, 1883. She is a graduate of the Mass. Normal Art School. Lowell, Mass, Louise M. Field, teacher of drawing from 1883 to 1886 ; was educated at the Mass. Normal Art School, where she is now a teacher. Boston, Mass, Carrie Maria Bassett was Assistant for the summer term of 1884. She is the daughter of Joseph S. and Abbie (Richards) Bassett, born in Sandwich, Mass., February 19, 1856, and educated in the public schools of Sandwich and under private teachers in Boston. She taught seven years in the Saudwich High School, and has taught in the Braintree High School the last four years. Braintree or Sandwich, Mass.

Afterwards, till her marriage, she was a teacher in the Hancock school, Boston, She married Datus Whitaker Harris at Lyn- field, July 19, 1860. Went to reside at Birnam Wood, Ar- kansas, where she died Aug. 3, 1861. The news of her death came by the last mail that crossed the line when the war was beginning. Mary Frances Gragg, the daughter of Moses and Rebecca Newell (Alden) Gragg, was born in Milton, Mass., June 30, 1839. She was educated in the Roxbury grammar and high schools. Commenced teaching in Dedham High School Sept., 1857, and continued five years. In 1862 became assistant in Roxbury high school, where she taught six years. Married, Sept. 7, 1868, Henry White Richards. Their son, Francis Gragg, was born Aug. 14, 1880. Mrs. Richards died Aug. 14, 1880. Sarah Annie Shorey, a graduate of the school, was assist- ant teacher from Sept., 1863, till Sept., 1870. See 1855. Edna Frances Calder, a graduate of the school, was assistant teacher from Sept., 1868, to Sept., 1871. See 1855. Maria Therese Delano was assistant teacher from Sept., 1870, one year. Again from the spring term of 1873 to June, 1884. She is the daughter of Thomas Ingalls and Maria Louisa (Grigg) Delano, and was born in New Boston, N. H., June 12, 1843. Was educated in the public schools of Somer- ville and the Salem Normal School, graduating in 1861. Taught in Cliftondale a year and a half; in Bunker Hill School, Charlestown, 3 years ; in West Side Ladies ' Seminary, Chi- cago, 111., 3 years; in Lynfield and Reading, 2 years; and in Canton, Mass., about 2 years; in all nearly 24 years. She says, During that time I was not out of school a day for sickness. 72 Florence Street, Somerville, Mass. Martha Abbie Smith, a graduate of the school, was assistant teacher from Sept., 1871, to June, 1884. See 1865.

TEACHEBS. 13 Guy Carlton Channell was elected Submaster in July, 1884. He is the son of Daniel C. and Phoebe A. (Pinkham) Channell, born in Boston, Aug. 13, 1863. He was educated in the public schools of Reading, Mass. and at the Bridgewater Normal School, from which he graduated, completing the four years course in June, 1884. Was elected superintendent of the Dedham Public Schools in April, 1888, and still holds that office. Dedham, Mass. Caroline May Taylor was an Assistant from Sept. 1884 to June, 1885. She graduated from Boston University, class of 1884, College of Liberal Arts. Somerville, Mass. Caroline Alden Carroll, a graduate of the school, has been an Assi stant since Sept. 1885. See 1876. Annie J. Barton, a graduate of the school, was an Assis- tant from Sept. 1885 till October, 1888. See 1862. Alicia M. Spaulding, a graduate of the school, taught drawing from Sept., 1886, to June, 1887. See 1880. Annie R. Slafter, a graduate of the school, has taught drawing since Sept., 1887. See 1876. George Frederic Joyce, submaster since April, 1888, is the son of George Frederic and Reliance (Tucker) Joyce, born in Roxbury, Mass., Dec. 19, 1857. Prepared for college in the Brookline High School, and graduated at Harvard College, A. B., in 1881. Married Villa Arietta Saunders at East New Sharon, Me., Aug. 13, 1884. Their children are Harold Winslow, born Jan. 28, 1886, and Helen Hunt, Sept. 7, 1889. Dedham, Mass. Sarah Jane Storms, assistant since April, 1888, the daughter of Simmon Pena and Sarah Jane (Stevens) Storms, was born in San Francisco, Cal., Nov. 30, 1863. Fitted for college in Newton High School, and graduated at Wellesley College, degree of B. S. s 1883. Taught in Leicester Academy a term. Dedham, Mass. Mrs. Annie E. Abrahams, assistant since Oct., 1888. Was educated at the Maine Wesleyan Seminary and Female College, Kent ' s Hill, Me. Dedham, Mass.
