K enioy v .-lass .J tlstor ' On September 4, 68 of us entered the doors of De- catur, Jr.-Sr. High School to begin our final year of education. The first activity of the senior class was to elect officers and a sponsor. President— James Baumgart- ner. Vice-president— Ken Eliasson, Secretary— Jo Ann Jones, Treasurer— Judv Carpenter, Sponsor, Miss Vera. On November 19, the seniors sponsored the Stu- dent Day Sale. With the help of the whole student body, the Student Day Sale was very successful. In January the seniors visited the Court House to witness a naturalization ceremony as part of our citizensh ip training. On May 16, the Junior-Senior Prom was held. The Juniors did a wonderful job of planning and dec- orating around the theme Saynoara. The seniors will remember the Prom as one of the outstanding events of their high school career. Baccalaureate services were held on May 18, with Reverend C. E. Lykins of the Church of the Nazarene giving the message. The Senior Banquet was held on May 20. Finally on May 22, Commencement arrived. This was the night which all of us had been looking for with great anticipation. Dr. George E. Davis of Pur- due University gave a wonderful speech and then Dr. Burk presented the seniors with their diplomas. The Commencement dance followed after the grad- uation. After the dance entertainment was provided throughout the night by various organizations. Each senior has many wonderful memories of his whole high school career at D.H.S. We shall always remember D.H.S. and we shall consider ourselves fortunate to be graduates of D.H.S. 22 ._5eM or C -la President— Jim Baiimgartner Vice President— Ken Eliasson Secretary— Jo Ann ( Jones ) Baii- niann Treasurer— Judy Carpenter enic r v.yTo;io; ' Vo •Sl!)fiiaciif:- Row 1: Emily Swearingen, Linda Norris, Lucille Knittle, Barbara Kalver, Jane Wass, Jean Wass. This year Dennis Ahr, Joe McNerney and Jean Finlayson served on the Student Counciil. We wish to commend them on the fine job they did. After an unfortunate football season (0 wins and 2 losses) the boys really put out in basketball. They had a record of 16 wins and 4 losses. They lost the City Series but won in a tourney held at Decatur. The first thing accomphshed by the council was the election of of- ficers: president, James Baumgartner; vice-president, Joe Smith; secretary, Alice Allwein. The hall check committees were assigned, and each week the winning hall was announced over the public address sys- tem. The Student Council members participated in the Polio Drive, which was very successful. The next project was the most important of the year. Our Student Council introduced the Four Way-Test, which is a measuring stick of ethics. The Four Way -Test was unanimously accepted by the students. The Student Council took the task of repairing all desks which were in poor condition. The Student Council has played an important part in the school during the past year. We hope that the Council in the coming years will carry on the good work. Although the work has been difficult, and sometimes discouraging, we have as a whole, en- joyed very much preparing this for you. The difficuties to be overcome, the time sched- ules to be met, and all the rest of the problems we have encountered, all have been surmoimted with a certain amount of pride. These ends have been attained through the uniformed efforts of a willing staff. We hope that the footsteps we have taken day by day in our Ravelings experiences will help us to make bigger and better footsteps in the future.
