Jacriuie Hltc, Seventy musically-interested junior and senior students blend their voices beauti- fully to form the Decatur High School Choir. The Choir appeared in public several times this year. In November we had our annual Fall Concert on the night of Open House at school. The following month the Christmas program was presented. In January we sang at the Reformed Church for Spiritual Em- phasis Week. Our coming attractions are Tulip Time. a musical comedy, which will be presented April 3rd and 4th, Baccalaure- ate and Commencement. at which occasions senior members of the Choir make their last appearance as Choir members. The Choir sponsored a dance after the South Side basketball game. The theme of 33 the dance was f'Frostie's Frolics g the room was decorated with blue and white crepe paper and looked convincingly cold. The following officers were elected for the yeari President. Norman Pollock: Vice- President. Ervin Ewellg Secretary, Betty An- dersong Treasurer, Ellenora Fisher. VVe have an excellent and patient director in Miss Helen Haubold. It would be impos- sible to overlook our able and talented ac- companist. Carol Elzey. She has done a fine -job. The Choir has always been an organization to which the underclassmen anticipate membership. When they finally attain this coveted membership, they all agree they are not disappointed. 75 , ui ' g I 3 ff? Q? rw- 4v , 75' .?e.,j, Y . il: H ffl-le I Jn fi . NMMA B3 Following these two home games, the Jackets traveled to Garrett where they met a team which had been a Hcousin' to the Jacket teams of the past. Evidently the Hail- roaders were tired of the rough handling by the Jackets, for they really poured it on. With four hard running backs gaining vard- age easily behind superb blocking, the final score was 46-0 in favor of Garrett. Behind the inspired efforts of Coach Bob Worthman, the Jackets met the Panthers of Portland on the foreign field. Meeting a team of their own size, the Jackets played heads up football. The score of l3-7 doesn t tell the real story since many Jacket touch- downs were called because of penalties. This was the only victory for the Jackets this season. The inspiration and fight carried into the Coaches Robert Worthman Deane Dorwin Jerry Leitz Hubert Zerkel Concordia game. For the first half the .pack- ets played on even terms with the Cadets. but in the last half the Jackets ran out of pep and steam, and they were defeated by the score of 28-0. They, the Jackets, ventured to New Haven to meet the Bulldogs. Again the Jackets fought hard and deterrninedly in the first half, but they were beaten in the last half. The boys really played as a team in the first half and led 7-0 at the intermission. The following Friday the Jackets met what was to become the co-champions of the con- ference along with Auburn. VVarsaw invaded Worthman Field, and I mean invaded. They handed the Jackets a defeat to the tune of 33-0. This was by far the biggest and west team the Jackets played all year. Freshmen-Sophomore Team The weather changed completely then, and the Jackets met the always-tough Central Tigers in a game filled with snow and wind. Evidently the Weather didn't bother the Ti- gers, for the final score was 54-12. With 13 lettermen coming back for thc 1952 season, coaches VVorthman and Dorwin should have one of the best seasons in Yel- low Jacket football history. The graduating seniors wish the '52 team the best of luckg they will be backing them all the Way. Championship last year, but they are looking forward to, and are hoping to win the title this year. In the past fourteen years the Jackets have Won the N.E.I.C. Championship ten times. The Jackets were hit hard by graduation last year, but they have some lettermen back this year. Mr. Dorwin, however. is rebuild- ing this year, and is giving the team a fight- ing spirit which he has so capably instilled in the last seasons. The lettermen returning from last year's squad are: N. Pollock, D. Duff, D. Reinking. P. Conrad, G. Vetter, and R. Plumley. This year's City Series attraction was a sad one for us as we lost in two straight games by scores of 27-19 and 21-19.
