ANGUAGE DEP RTME Learning to know other people by learning their language is one ot the obiectives of this department. Miss Aileen Pope, instructor in this section of our curriculum, teaches first and second year French and second and third year Latin. A study is made of the lives and customs ot the early Romans and the influence their culture and language have upon our civilization today. In the French classes, when students have become relatively familiar with the mechanics of the tongue, they probe into French literature, art, and government in order to understand ond appreciate the people ot that nation, This department provides a cultural background that is ot as much value as the lcnowf ledge ofthe language itselt. Each notebook Miss Pope grades holds new interests and new facts, J. Weaver tells us that French is interesting. Try it. in the sentence she writes on the board. Miss Pope shows members ot the Virgil class a bust ot this famous poet. What charming French city do you prefer? S, L, Meinhart and B. B. Beatty can show you iust where to find it.
