'i': - SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Nineteen hundred and twenty-five was an eventful year for about one hundred and hfty young lads and lassies. They started on their first and one of the most important journeys of life when they solemnly and hesitantly marched into the various grammar schools of Decatur. A new and exciting life had begun for them, one in which they were to explore and discover new and interesting things. After six uneventful years these lads and lassies graduated from grammar school and entered the first lap of their education, which was junior high school. Most of them passed successfully through the seventh, eighth and ninth grades under the faithful guidance of Miss Pritchett, Mrs. Garten, Miss Russell, Miss Rinehart, Mr. Kelly, and Mr. Napps. The next year the young students entered senior high school. As they entered, a magic spell was cast over Riverside. A beautiful goddess stood on each side of the entrance and changed these romping, stamping children into subdued young men and women. Many old friends have gone and new ones have taken their places. W'e have had a wonderful time in Dear Old Riverside. Young voices have made the walls ring with youth and laughter. The school life of our class has not always been easy. We have had to talce the thorns with the roses, but this has better prepared us for future life. Our class has shown great dramatic ability in the plays which have been pre- sented. We shall perhaps have some actors and actresses of which to be proud, and of which we can say, I went to school with him or herf' We have also carried through a very successful magazine campaign this year. During our Senior High School career our teachers have been our guiding stars. We are greatly indebted to them in more ways than those in which more knowledge is concerned. Nlay those classes which follow love, honor, and respect them as we do. After our graduation this year we shall be divided, but to all of us the Gates of Opportunity stand open. How many will enter? Will you? That which we are, we are One equal temper of heroic hearts Made weak by time and fate, But strong in will to strive, To seelc, to find, and not to yield.-Tennyson MARY YOUNG, Clan Historian. 1 25 I

4 .lima 4-.ff - CLAS S POEM Twelve years ago was our starting time, Wfhen from the bottom we began to climb, Our determination being we would not stop Until we had reached the very top. Long, crooked and Through which we narrow was our path tried to work our math, History, science and grammar was the same With zero sometimes placed beside our name. But this did not keep us back, For, courage then we did not lack. We knew there was a joy untold, In reaching that long, desired-for goal. And now after years of work and strife We have reached the turning point of life. But with that same We look ahead to Twelve long years Twelve long years Twelve long years Until our hair has We prize them all, zeal we had in the past, our future at last. with sighs and tears! with hopes and fears! that with us stay, turned to gray. gloomy and fair. Forever in our hearts they will share A place, where nothing else can stay To steal the memories of them away. RUBY C. NANCE, Class Poet 1 263
