O 16 ' 6 Twenty eight grid candidates started working out under Coach Young and Coach Curry on August Z7. Included in this group were eight starters back from last year s team. After a week and a half of hard workout and severa scrimmages the Eagles began to look like a football team. Bridgeport invaded Decatur for the season opener but went home on the short end of the score. The Eagles continued to win by upsetting a favored Birdville team. Northwest s hopes of shattering Decatur s victory string were stopped in a hard fought c onte st. Eagles lost their first game to a strong Dia- mond Hill team. Injury plagued Ea gle s tied Sanger with a last minute touchdown. Upset-minded Saint o finally settled for a tie with the crippled Eagle s. Eagles broke a twelve year jinx by beating Bowie in first conference ga me. .Iacksboro handed Deca- tur first conference setback in a home game. Nocona and Deca- tur renewed their bitter rivalry and fought to a scoreless dead- lock. Eagles dropped a close one to the district champions Olney. With the Olneygame Decatur con cluded an injury plagued season during which theylost only three games.
