The De Smet Chapter of the NHS had a thirtieth anni- versary this year. The chapter was started in the 1952-53 school year by Marcus Alonzo Chase. He was in charge of organizing NHS and acquiring the Constitution trom the national secretary in Virginia. He had the strong, guiding hand of the first adviser. Lyle Lester. The charter was issued December 20. 1952. Mr. Lester was an adviser for many years and Mrs. Dannenbring was his assistant. When he retired. Mrs. Dannenbring became adviser Marcus (Lonnie) Chase went into education and was teaching in Watertown at the time of his death. We appreciate the time and efforts he gave to organize the De Smet Chapter and hope the chapter will continue many more years. To celebrate the anniversary a new frame was made for the charter and it will hang in the administrative office. Officers: Bob Timp. Vice-president; Joel Poppcn. President; Mrs. Danncnbring, adviser and Julie Baicr. Secretary-treasurer. 16
