7947 Venlmus v1d1mus v1c1mus' And thus after four long but mem orable years the Sen1or Class of 47 has achxe ed tts long sought after goal graduatron And so we have marched up the steps of St Vlncents for the last ttme 1n the capac1ty as students of DePaul We have recelved our drplomas whtch for four years represented the scholast1c efforts and struggles we have undertaken Dlplomas whose face value wxll gradually recede and the1r 1ntr1ns1c value that of fond memorles w1ll grow more promment as the years pass Ever slnce the fall of l943 our class d1st1ngu1shed ltself by the sp1r1t determmatlon and abtlrty to forge ahead regardless of all obstacles Entermg as green and und1sc1pl1ned Freshmen at a t1me when Amer1ca was engaged IH ts th1rd year of war we proved capable of acceptlng new changes by entenng whole heartedly 1nto competl t1ve sports as well as scholastlc endeavor The followmg two years saw us ever progressrng Bemg a l1ttle more farnthar w1th the task that confronted us we redouoled our fervor and pressed ahead As the t1me sltpped by we found our selves takmg a more serlous aspect of hfe Our outlook our sp1r1t our phystcal and mental facult1es began to mature We began to realtze the rmportance of a good educat1on sp1r1tual and otherw1se We had also acquxred an attltude of respons1b1l1ty Through the constant and zealous efforts of the faculty the s1gns of young Cathollc gentlemen were already ev1dent Our conduct 1n every way 1nd1 cated that we were fully prepared to take over the tasks left us by our predecessors Fmally we reached our goal Sentors The completed years had consoltdated us 1n the sp1r1t and tradxtlon of the school The coals of DePaul s sp1r1t were fanned harder than ever before and our sp1r1t aga1n reached the pre war vrntage Whether 1t was on the gncl ron the basketball court or on the clnders the Class of 47 demon strated tts flghtmg sp1r1t The leaders as chosen by our class to frll the serxor offtces were Dan Murphy Presldent Buddy l-letberger V1cePres1dent and Mlke Powers Secretary Treasurer The Prestdent 1S well known for h1s Academy Soclal Enterpnses as well as h1s hlgh scholastrc ratmg ln the Vlce Pres1dent IS person1f1ed the Splfll of DePaul athlettcs l-le s as well known for h1s work on the football fleld as he lb on the basket ball court The S cretary Treasurer has ga1ned promtnence as the Assoc1ate Edrtor of the Prep as well as h1s currlcular act1v1t1es These men chosen by us as our representatlves are typlcal of the lntelh gence Sportsmanshlp and Aggresslve Outlook of the entlre class And so havlng advanced tn age and outlook we are prepared to assume some of the responslblltttes of thls world we stand at the threshold of our own rndependence conf1dent of our capab111t1es and real1z1ng that thls was made so only oy the mdefattguable and always sympathetlc faculty We go forth armed XJlll'l a good rel1g1ous tra1n mg somethmg for wh1ch the good Fathers wlll always have our undylng thanks As we look back rn retrospect over our hlgh school davs we are ftlled wrth hurmuty respect and a touch of nostalgla when we realtze that for four years we were a part of thts ofg rnachrre We are proud of DePaul We are proud t have been nere We shall always be proud of DePaul Acadern, our Alma Mater Page 6 I I ' V W . , ,v , , . , , f , . 1 f . l I .. . , , A , , , - . .
